India Team Discussion

Cricket season | Archives | ESPN Cricinfo

I was going through the season fixtures and the only Indian involvement for the rest of the year is the IPL. Do India have the year off from cricket after the IPL?

No fixtures or tours?

I guess there are tours for which the schedule has`nt been confirmed which is why Cricinfo has`nt put them up yet. I think SA tour India this year and we were supposed to be playing Pakistan this year as well. You can always expect a series or two to be scheduled against SL randomly. :D

ICC ODi ranking still keeping us on 2.

This could be the career move that might make Pujara our new Dravid. We desperately need solid batsmen in overseas conditions. Let us wait and see...

I feel Rahane is already our new Dravid. The guy has been pretty solid (touchwood) in overseas conditions. I wish Pujara can do a Laxman.

Cricinfo's fixtures list are not kept upto date, so take them with a heavy pinch of salt. It would be utterly unbelievable for us to even have a month's break away from playing cricket. After the IPL, we have a series coming up against Bangladesh which will be our first international series post the WC.

By the FTP India would be playing Bangladesh, Zimbabwe (limited overs only), Sri Lanka, South Africa and Pakistan this year bit that's not always perfect of course.

Yes, found the same on WillowTV's schedule

> India tour of BD (1 Test, 3 ODIs) - Jun 14
> India tour of Zim (3ODis, 1T20) - Jul 14
> SL tour of India (3 Tests) - Aug 14
> SAF tour of India (4 Tests, 5 ODIs, 2 T20s) - Oct 14

All of them marked "to be confirmed" though

Kohli hurt by critics going personal | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

Kolhi's point is 100% correct and people responsible for that should be ashamed, but in the process some of his comments are belittling others in the team cant see him being captaincy material.

"Personally I was very disappointed. I don't think anyone has helped India win as many matches or performed as consistently as I have in the last five years," // imsure rahane bhuvi, murali, pujara, raina may say otherwise.

"So in my case if I don't do well in two games it is a dip in form whereas for some of the other players they perform two games out of ten they come back in form. I don't understand that and I don't really pay attention to it. It is how you hit the ball on that particular day. In my mind I am really more confident than I have been ever in my life." //i can only think of dhawan or rohit here

dont know if im reading too much here but he sounds way too full of himself.

He is full of himself, no doubt about it. Remember he said " I will become a better player than Sachin" when he won the U19 WC.

He has already surpassed Tendulkar, in my book which discards longevity type records, Kohli is right up there with Gavaskar/Dravid/
Vishwanath as being the best Indian batsman the world has ever seen! Haters need to stop hating!

He averages below 15 in England and the West Indies - I'd argue that your best ever batsman has to average more than a tail-ender in all Test Match nations; otherwise you're not going to be seen as an all time great.

Incidentally; when India bats first Kohli is terrible (in 33 innings he's scored [email protected]) while when they field first then he's really quite good (in 26 innings he's scored 1,[email protected]). I don't know its that's common in batsmen (although I doubt it otherwise everyone would put the other team in) but that is interesting. Its the same in ODIs but to a much lesser extent (averaging 38.34 batting first and 63.60 batting second) and also in T20s (29.28/80.28). Apparently you should always put India in since it blunts one of their best batsmen... I didn't go look that up, I saw it while looking up his stats batting in England and thought it was quite interesting

e: I looked up another subcontinental batsman (Sangakarra - who's statistically better than Tendulkar in tests) and there isn't that disparity (58.14 batting first, 59.31 batting second). Interesting...

Correct me if I'm wrong but Virat has only toured England once, likewise WI (wrt playing test cricket} so its a bit too early to use purely statistics to draw your conclusions.

Cannot deny he is a special talent and if nurtured properly can certainly be one of the all time greats of the game, already is a legend of Indian batting!

Rank him way above Tendulkar but below Ponting/Lara/Kallis. I mean stats may be your thing but I never go purely on stats.
