India Team Discussion

I was looking at schedule and I think India have got into a poor tour cycle. Its either all away tours in one go, or all home tours in one go, and then all away tours in one go. It has to be a mixture. Perhaps host SA, and then go away to play in England, and then come back for an home series against Australia, followed by a tour to NZ, or something.

With the side for the tour to Australia to be selected on the 19th and the World T20 not far away, Yuvraj Singh is making it hard for the selectors to ignore him for the limited overs side.

The Limited Overs side has not been in the greatest form, with India having lost the Limited Overs series in Bangladesh, for the first time ever, and defeat to SA in both the ODI and T20 series, and many of the players are facing question marks over their form and selection.

In the ongoing Vijay Hazare Trophy Yuvraj has scored 243 runs in 5 games at an average of 81 and a strike rate of 98. Yuvraj did his reputation no good, after two failed IPL seasons with RCB and DD, and that too after the franchises paid through the roof to get him in their side at the auction.

However Yuvraj's new found form will be tough to ignore for the selectors, given the poor run the side is having in the limited overs' version.

I hope he gets selected. Raina is not doing justice to his role. Need to drop him for some time. For one day match.

If Yuvraj is performing, then why not. Although does anyone have any news on his fitness level, in the field. Is he bowling as well ?

Pick him over Binny in any case !!

Nothing against Yuvraj but it's very simple for me. Is Yuvraj going to play the next WC? Select him based on that answer. If I was a selector, I wouldn't pick him just because we are now building a team for the next WC. According to me, I don't see Yuvraj playing in the next WC. I would rather give this chance to a younger player.

There is no way Binny should be anywhere near the team but next champions trophy and WC being in England is likely to help him. Unless someone like Rishi Dhawan or Hardik Pandya can really put their hand up and perform sensationally, Binny is likely to be on that fight.

Dhoni's form has been really rough in this Vijay Hazare trophy. He hasn't made a single fifty yet in his 6 appearance. However, it's good that he is at least getting some competitive cricket before Australia ODI's.

Yuvi might not play next WC but could play next T20 WC and that imo would be the best opportunity for him to retire. It would be a fitting retirement for him.

Yeh that's a fair shout I guess.

Shami, Jadeja likely to return for Australia series | Cricket | ESPN Cricinfo

I just read this article on Cricinfo where they are saying Shami should walk back into the squad and Jadeja is also likely to be back. Shami has only played 2 games in this Vijay Hazare Trophy and bowled about 18 overs after his injury. Ideally, I would have like to see him bowl some more overs before allowing him to come back into the squad. Jadeja was likely to be back after his performance in the test series. Rishi Dhawan has just scored a century against MP. Hopefully, selectors are at least noticing him.

^ I agree on Shami ... he needs to work on his fitness before he walks back into the side. Something else that a lot of people have missed is the work Vijay has put in batting at #3 for TN in the Vijay Hazare trophy. He has also hit some form. I would also be in favor of Yuvi making a comeback. I am not sure Jadeja should be recalled for the Aus tour, I don't know what he is going to contribute on those pitches, with either the bat or the ball. I do agree that Jadeja now has to be a part of the World T20 side, so I suppose the Aus tour will the point where he should be reintegrated into the side.

If I had to pick a 15 member squad it would be a lot like this -

R Sharma
S Dhawan
V Kohli
A Rahane
M Vijay
Y Singh
MS Dhoni
R Ashwin
A Mishra
U Yadav
V Aaron
R Jadeja
B Kumar
S Raina
R DhawanI Sharma

I'm delighted that Yuvraj Singh has been given another go- While I have no issues with his return, it's rather ludicrous that Raina has been dropped. Shikhar Dhawan has a lifetime contract to play for India. If after all the selfless performances Raina has put in can't assign him the spot at no.6, nothing will-

My World T20 side would be as follows-

Rohit Sharma
Ajinkya Rahane
Virat Kohli
Yuvraj Singh
Suresh Raina
MS Dhoni
Ravindra Jadeja
Ravichandran Ashwin
Bhuvaneshwar Kumar
Umesh Yadav
Ashish Nehra/Amit Mishra/Axar Patel (depending on the conditions and the opposition)

I would opt for Robin Uthappa as a spare keeper batsman and reserve opener. I want to see how Hardik Pandya goes. The last batsman (reserve) is open and Binny or Rayudu are not the answers.

ODI Team wouldn't be much different either.

What a shame.Yuvraj singh dosen't deserve to be in t20 squad. We have a lot of players in line for that spot.I would pick Mohammad Shami on Nehra.Nehra is good in ipl but we should not take chance with him in t20 wc.

In Vijay Hazare QFs update, both of today's quarters proved to be thrillers.

TN vs UP by 1 wicket in a low scoring game. Ashwin picked two wickets for TN and was economical as ever, while Bhuvi picked up 3 early wickets to set UP up in an unlikely position to defend 168. Piyush Chawla then pitcked up three more to make it difficult for TN, but they reached the target with 1 wicket left.

In the other game, Vidarbha let go of a winning position to lose to Gujarat. Jasprit Bumrah picked up 4 wickets to restrict Vidarbha for 195. In reply despite a good 57 from captain Parthiv Patel, Gujarat were reduced to 162/8. Vidarbha though couldn't push through the advantage, and Gujarat knocked off the remaining 34 runs for victory without losing any more wickets. Axar Patel scored an unbeaten 36, and was supported by Hardik Patel who hung around for an unbeaten 15 to help Gujarat through.

The first semi-final pits HP vs Delhi, while the 2nd one sees Gujarat face off against TN. Both the semis will be played on the 26th, with the final on the 28th.
