India tour of England 2018

I'm at a loss of words. Brilliant comeback by India Kohli. It's certainly advantage India at the end of Day 2 even though we are in deficit.

I don't know if the other batsmen got a dressing down but I feel they should. How many times can you depend on one individual? Yes, there were some good wicket taking balls but there were also wickets being gifted away. Can't help but wonder if this will be SA tour repeat. Our bowlers are doing the job but the batsmen are wasting that advantage.

Cook must be very much demoralized after getting out twice in the same manner. But those two were absolute beauties - nothing he could have done about them.

Also saw the highlights and witnessed prodigious swing from Curran, Stokes and company. The edges were found way too many times for the liking. I think anything about 180 shouldn't be easy to get. All in all, great entertainment for the fans as riveting contests are always enjoyable.

Congratulations to young Sam Curran ( 4 fer) at 20 years and 80 days beating 88 years old record sets by Bill Voce whose 4 wickets haul came in at 20 years 179 days of age.

kohlis innings good but not Epic as newspaper says, Anderson/broad not the same as 2014 series, no longer.

I agree, newspapers in India do exaggerate a lot. But in this case I'm with them.

This innings from Kohli will certainly affect his future performances. He came into the series with some serious baggage (even if he showed otherwise in the press conferences) and this will do a world of a difference to this confidence. England might still win the series but rest assured Kohli will be there to make it as hard as possible for them.

To score 149 in that situation is amazing even with couple of dropped catches. Not to forget that Kohli was in pressure throughout the innings. He didn't get any support from the other end. He had not scored in England before this. His team was totally down. It was an amazing innings.

Ashwin got out when the score was 169. 8 runs were scored by the other 3 batsmen(Shami, Ishant, Umesh) combined. I remember 4 byes in Rashid's over and India scored 274 in the end. He scored 93 runs out of the total 105 runs in the end. That's a very nice effort from Kohli.

I was checking cricbuzz just a few minutes back and found this-

Virat Kohli:
First 11 Test 100s - Dismissed less than 150 - nine times
Next 11 Test 100s - Dismissed for less than 150 - once. And he missed 150 by just 1 run !

Actually, I believe it was absolutely the opposite z. I think Kohli was on 68 when Shami got out and it totally freed him up. The freedom empowered him and then he made England pay. This 'he hadn't scored runs in England' bothers us and the press more than blokes like him. He scored a hundred in SA on a wicket which was much much tougher than this. It was a brilliant counter attack by him, but the game dictated it and it came off from his point of view. In a way, as I mentioned before, it put him in limited overs mode and there is not a soul that thrives or has thrived more in that environment than Kohli. I definitely don't think 'it was one of the great innings.' It was a vital innings in the context of the game but a 'great innings' in my opinion could be a 74 and not a 149 but it comes against a good attack which this is, in difficult conditions which I would say is at about 60% difficulty here, an almost chanceless one which this is definitely not and in a situation where the team needs it desperately which this is. That weakness against Anderson is still 100% there.

The difference now will be that Kohli is brimming with confidence, the booing before he entered the field would have helped him to get going and now with 9 innings in front he will make England pay. Dawid Malan will remember this series.[DOUBLEPOST=1533279202][/DOUBLEPOST]We should thank England for playing Rashid. It's a X man a side test. Rashid vs Pandya.

kohlis innings good but not Epic as newspaper says

I think it was one of the best innings of his career. He kept the team in contest single handedly. The highest score after his EPIC 149 was in the 20s.

Too much is being made of the two DROPPED catches. On his bad days he gets out to blinders and freak catches as well. Plus some of the best knocks have been built on Dropped catches. Guptill 237 in World cup quarter finals(dropped on 4), Graham Gooch's 333 (dropped on 36), Rohit's 264 (dropped on 4), Ponting's 142 in Ashes 07 (dropped on 35)

Just because he built this innings on two dropped catches doesn't diminish the value of the innings. and post the drops, he was pretty darn fluent and took the charge to the English while shielding the tail in the process

Yep perfectly put. This knock was one of the highest quality you can ever see in the Test arena. Not everyone can play with so much ease as Kohli did even if it was freedom which allowed him to do that. When we were 180 odd for 8, I thought a 100 run lead for the English and match over. But the way he went about after that was a real sight to watch. To get the deficit down to only 13 runs is a super effort on Kohli's part.

Hopefully today we bowl well and don't let England batsmen run away with the game. And our batsmen need to apply themselves. I am a Rahane fan but it has been very long since he has been out of form and good batsmen don't take this long to get back in form. Rahul is under tremendous pressure too and all this because of our management which has put insecurities in the minds of the players. I hope we perisist with DK as a keeper for the whole series now and don't hurry Pant in if DK fails in say first 2 matches. Players need to be backed!

Exactly. It's high time Rahane gets his form back. He always looked shaky when playing against strong opponents in recent times. This should be the series where he comes back strong and justify his tag.
Again, I agree with Rahul and DK. Rahul is constantly fighting for his place. It may be against Dhawan or Pujara or even Sharma. He should play all 5 matches and then analyze his situation. Although I am confident he will make runs in 2nd innings. Same goes for DK. One bad match shouldn't be the reason for him to sit out. He is matured and he is playing well. He should be given enough chances.

The freedom empowered him and then he made England pay.
Just because he had freedom doesn't mean he was not under pressure. He had freedom to play his shots but he was under pressure to make runs and take the team out of the hole. So, being free to play shots doesn't mean pressure is lifted. Only when runs keep coming, the pressure lifts.

I agree SA pitch and bowlers were tougher than this, but that doesn't make yesterday's innings as 'not great innings'. Kohli may say that he doesn't care about how media are telling that he has not scored and he will be under pressure. But mentally, he will also feel that pressure. Of course he is not gonna come out in open and tell that 'yes. I am feeling pressure'.

If India get Root and Bairstow cheaply, this test match is ours.

I've always felt Malan is a no 5 and Bairstow is too good to be batting lower than 4. He also doesn't need to be burdened with the gloves specially with Buttler in the side.

How good is this. Test cricket at its best.

Rahul nearly hold Johnny but I would say its half chance.
Ash 9/0/20/3-He already took 7 in the match.

England must need to think seriously of Cook on his career as opener or Drops him in the middle.

I really hate dk as keeper.I wish saha or pant return in Indian team asap.

DK has been VERY sloppy behind the wickets, besides the dropped catch ... he needs to tidy up

Saha is definitely the better keeper

Every run so important NOW.I wish vk Avoids single over to Pandya and Umesh, lead now 65 with 7 wickets in hand.

Malan on 17 for long time, he should rotate strike.
