Who will win the Test series?

Shaw has played Test cricket previously and seems to be in good knick
I think Kohli would not repeat this mistake again (and rightly so). Shaw might have been added as a back-up but I doubt he will be considered as first choice opener. He was thoroughly exposed in Australia. Right now, he doesn't strike any confidence. Anderson & Co will simply gobble him up.

No way we are playing 4 pacers that is for sure. We would rather have 3 pacers and 1 spinner with Vihari at 7. On dry pitches we can afford to have both of Ashwin and Jadeja. So probably we aren't playing them together until The Oval Test.

I mean all good with taking care of your mental health, but hasnt Stokes been home since IPL injury? He is going to skip The Hundred too? Not play in the second half of IPL? Skip Ashes? Is this backing out of all cricket indefinitely or just the upcoming series?

I except skipping the India series, and probably the rest of the English season, means he will be available for the Ashes and the World T20 which would be the top priorities for England.

I think the players had a meeting today or yesterday with the ECB. Wouldn't be surprised if this is an agreed break to ensure he's fully ready for the winter.

Ben Stokes taking a break from cricket.

Good to see that mental wellbeing is being given importance as well now.
Sadly, if it was a Pakistani or Indian player in this situation, they'd be labelled "cowardly" or "unpatriotic"

Seeing this from a lot of "fans" on twitter. Such a weird take, especially since he also has the finger injury.

Without Stokes too, England are quite formidable, especially in their home conditions.

India-coming off the back of a long UK/European vacation will undoubtedly find it hard to acclimatize. Furthermore, with the news coming in from various quarters regarding Pujara and Rahane, I wouldn't be surprised if India gets whitewashed here.

The only fact that I am relieved about is our pace battery. They are just too good to not thrive under any conditions. Ashwin is the key and he has to deliver and looking at his performance in the County, I feel he would deliver as well.

The only thing that can take India down is their batting and their team selections. They've been terrible since the New Zealand series. Australia series also we over relied on Rishabh Pant and Pujara. It is more about the belief of the team and the fightback from tough situations which is important for India.

So what are our options now? Our playing XI could be

  1. Rohit Sharma
  2. KL Rahul
  3. Cheteshwar Pujara
  4. Virat Kohli
  5. Ajinkya Rahane
  6. Rishabh Pant
  7. Ravindra Jadeja
  8. Ishant Sharma
  9. Jasprit Bumrah
  10. Mohammad Siraj
  11. Mohammad Shami
