So England are apparently looking to go with:
  1. :eng: :bat: Rory Burns
  2. :eng: :bat: Dom Sibley
  3. :eng: :bat: Zak Crawley
  4. :eng: :bat: Joe Root :c:
  5. :eng: :bat: Ollie Pope
  6. :eng: :wk: Jos Buttler
  7. :eng: :ar: Sam Curran
  8. :eng: :bwl: Ollie Robinson
  9. :eng: :bwl: Jack Leach
  10. :eng: :bwl: Stuart Broad
  11. :eng: :bwl: Jimmy Anderson
It would seem that somebody out of Burns, Pope or SCurran is going to have to have a real coming of age series if it's to stay competitive. That could absolutely happen though and it will be an interesting subplot to see who stands up.

Also, I'mreally glad that Stokes is taking the time he needs to look after himself; he's had a harrowing year and should only come back when he's properly ready.

I was very optimistic of our chances but after witnessing what happened over the last 3 months, I'm not so sure anymore. There are problems on both sides but I feel India have a larger share to deal with.

  • Over reliance on Kohli/Pujara
  • Frangible lower order and tail:- The less said about it, the better. Might as well prove to be the deciding factor
  • Inability to wipe out opposition's lower order:- Probably one of the weakest link

I'm not ruling out a whitewash, might win 1 Test if we are lucky. No doubt our bowlers are quite capable of taking 20 wickets but what good would that do if the team collapses within 30 runs/10 overs once the 6th wicket falls.

I've also been strongly opposed to the idea of Rohit playing a Test, let alone be an opener. But I was impressed with his occupancy of the crease in recent Tests. It's another thing that he ended up throwing his wicket away in almost every innings but should he have a good series in England, I would be more than happy to shed my notion about him.

My prediction: 4-1 in favour of England.

3-2 England is the most optimistic result I can think off. If we need to win our middle order must deliver at all costs!!!!

Didn't think I would see this from you. So you mean to say even the most optimistic view puts India in a losing situation?

Yes, you are right. I don't see India winning facing bowlers like Anderson, Broad and Robinson. Our biggest problem is the openers. With India's middle order not in form and their terribly weaker tail the openers could've added a lot of value to our side. This is Rohit's 2nd tour to England but it's the first for him as an Opener. I don't see him surviving for longer periods in these conditions as an opener even after being the highest run scorer for India in the WTC Final. I don't feel like India are going to open with Rahul. So I assume we are going to play this team tomorrow-

Rohit
Shaw
Pujara
Kohli
Rahane
Pant
Vihari
Ashwin
Ishant
Shami
Bumrah

I wouldn't be surprised to see Pujara/Vihari opening with Rohit and KL playing at 5.
