India tour of Ireland (2 T20Is) & England (1 Test, 3 ODIs & 3 T20Is)

What on earth is this ridiculous trend of bashing Dravid and #BringBackShastri ? I admit the results under RD haven't been spectacular, but we are forgetting that Ravi had 6 years with the team wherein he built it to his liking. Why can't our people give some more time to RD to etch out a strategy that would eventually make us world beaters?

The next test is atleast 6 months away and I expect major changes /overhaul in the squad by then. For starters, the team needs to zero down on a captain (physically fit, good credentials) and someone who can lead us for atleast 2year non-stop. That's the only way you can draft out something concrete. Every series Dravid has to contend with a different captain.

Secondly, the Indian non-performers can and should be shown the door. You cannot hog the place in the Indian side without performance. Now, even if it is Kohli, Rohit, they need to be put in their places.

You could say so. In-form players make a big difference to any side. India would find it tough to win the limited over series as well, unless Rohit or some other players strike top form.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. England in Pakistan might be a treat to watch. I'd like to see this Bazball strategy being employed against some good spinners in their own backyard. If England take it there, they would certainly go down as one of the top Test sides then.

The only thing Shastri built in his time was his stock of alcohol. There was no "team" or consistency in selection. Indian cricket is rich in talent as you would expect with the money and population we have but at least now people know where they belong. It is anyway impossible to decipher much from a one off test.

I anyway have never thought of all but one IPL franchise to have brains about them so I am not surprised he's not rated there but for him to not be a permanent fixture in white ball cricket is a huge service to the opposition lot.
I guess he was never auctioned for IPL.

Let us just accept one thing that Dravid is here to stay atleast for a decade if not less unless some controversy like the Kumble Saga sparks or he himself is tired of the job. Also if there is one man who can take Indian Cricket forward right now is Dravid.

Issues like Captaincy and all is just secondary. For the time being it's about building a team for the future and finding the right players. I can't say much about the LOIs but I think KLR did well in that Johannesburg Test. You can say that we lost the match in the last session or so but mind you it's never an easy task to Captain in Overseas without experience or any preparation.

I don't expect Dravid to be there for more than 2 years. I'd expect him to handle the helm/become Director of Cricket with the actual team coaches reporting to him in a few year's time. What could happen is the Indian team may split up roles, given Jay Shah's vision of simultaneously playing an ODI and Test together. Herein, you'd see the likes of say Nehra, Kanitkar ,Pandit etc taking over.

For the captain - I think it's fair to say that the MSK Prasad led committee screwed up badly. They knew they were handling a team that had Virat,Rohit and MS and yet didn't zero down on a deputy for either format. The Chetan Chauhan committee has also erred in trying out KLR, Bumrah who come with zero domestic captaincy experience. I do not mind a captain who isn't in the best of form, but can take good decisions on the field. India might have to look for radical options in the near future seeing as Rohit will most likely step aside post CWC2023 -by radical, consider Shaw/Gill.

It is mind numbing for me that Root has not played all 3 formats for England forever. I anyway have never thought of all but one IPL franchise to have brains about them so I am not surprised he's not rated there but for him to not be a permanent fixture in white ball cricket is a huge service to the opposition lot.
He's a permanent fixture, when available, in the ODI side. England has far better T20 batters. Moreover, since his last T20i he has scored 12 centuries in 41 test matches. Prior to that he had 16 centuries in 80 matches. Since his last ODI, last summer, he's got 8.

His conversation rate has gone through the roof too:
When playing all 3 formats: 28%
Since being dropped from the T20 side: 48%
Since his last ODI: 61.5%

You've a lot of time on your hands, friend, a lot. How you manage to get any sort of stat is a curiosity.

I wanted the forum's thoughts on Hanuman Vihari here. I have always thought of him to be an overrated player. Apart from that solitary stance in Sydney, haven't seen Vihari play an innings that can catapult him further.

Do you guys think he deserves to be in the side, especially when someone like a Sarfraza has been knocking the doors for a few years now? Vihari's batting position too keeps on changing- he certainly isn't a Number 3 in the setup.

Vihari would be my no.3 if we exclude Pujara from our XI. Also Sarfaraz isn't a top order batsman.

I think the bashing has been more about the ridiculous musical chairs being played with the captaincy spot and not the results

Shaw KLR as openers followed by Gill as 3 ?
I think KLR & Gill is the best bet when it comes to opening in Tests. Both are naturally aggressive and the technical aspect of their game is just perfect.

I think Shaw should first establish himself in the shorter formats first.
