Probably doing favours to an out of form but strong English team.

Malik in the powerplay is just a big no. Him and Harshal are both better in the middle overs. Should have played him instead of Harshal if the truly wanted to test him with Bumrah playing to cover the powerplay and the death.

The less I talk about Shreyas the better as he makes zero sense in this side. I’m totally jinxing him to be the match-winner here though. :spy

It's funny how we used to think Shreyas Iyer as a solution to our no.4 in LOIs 3 years ago and he even made a century for India batting there. He then had some struggles against short balls in 2020 IPL and got exposed in Australia and suddenly struggling for India across formats. I hope SKY doesn't go down on that path too. He is the best limited overs batter in India at present IMO.

Yeah man.

Iyer is a fantastic player and good leader.

Hope he finds way or develop his game to tackle short deliveries a leaf out of how Ganguly did in his career would do him a world of good.

I can't say much on that. I've only watched few of Ganguly's highlights from yesteryears and few of his IPL matches in 2012 where he really struggled to even strike at 120s.

But I've seen Raina struggle a lot during 2013/14 and then he had a terrific season in mid 2014 to early 2015 leading upto the IPL. Maybe something that sort would also be a good comeback. I remember Raina saved us from losing to Zimbabwe in 2015 WC.

Shreyas has always been susceptible to the short ball though. He wasn’t this bad though. This points to a lack of proper coaching to iron it out. His long term injury’s impact is also not being considered I suppose. Still think he can do a job in ODIs at four if he can at least work out his deficiencies against medium pace short bowling.

SKY seems tailor made for being adaptable to any form of bowling. Doubt he’ll have any such issues.

Oh well if Malik’s just going to slam down back of a length deliveries just below 90mph without much other variations he isn’t of much use to the Indian side.

Man Dada was finished by then he was nowhere near the half the player he was post 2005.

Raina did manage to tackle the short ball during the 2014/15 season after he was exploited terribly in the season before even at home series especially by the Aussie quicks.

In LOI you can find a way because of the bouncers limitations so he can develop his game around it.

This is more apt infact proper imitation of Pant behind the stumps.

Would've liked to see Hooda at 5 today despite his success at 3. Generally speaking, he's the closest thing to the "big six hitter" that India need in the batting order. Also provides a sixth bowler option with his offspin. Would be hard to fit Pant in with an XI in a full strength XI if Hooda plays, but if we're going by in form players, Hooda needs to be somewhere in that top five.

Think Shreyas was touted to be the #3/middle order backup for the T20 WC before the Ireland & Eng tours, but looks like Hooda might just get ahead of him in that T20 WC squad with his form. The re-emergence of his short ball vulnerabilities in recent times have really hurt his chances here.
