India tour of Ireland (2 T20Is) & England (1 Test, 3 ODIs & 3 T20Is)

I don't mind this approach. We have 3 wickets in hand with 3 overs to go and a 140 on the board. India should fancy 170 at this stage with Jadeja still on the crease

Don't think he is overrated.

From doing radio commentary at the age of 17 for an Australian network to being the host broadcaster and commentator for ESPN Star Network 15+ years Bhogle has done a tremendous job.

Off late especially after that Controversy involving Amitabh , Dhoni and others in 2016 he has been spitting cringes as well.

He isn’t overrated if you do see the other options we have but in comparison to Sky’s panel or the West Indian greats you can clearly see that he is lacking given that he is supposed to be our premier commentator. Still like I said he’s done a lot of hard work to get to where he is and I have complete respect for that.

And this is what I mean by Harshal being a handy slogger down the order. He still has some work to do on his batting but it can be very useful in a lot of games. If he can bring his best with the bowling I don’t see him losing his spot in the T20 WC XI.

Jordan playing for England is different bowler altogether.

His horrific season in the last few IPL season is still fresh in my mind. :D

11 runs required now for 170 in last over

Don't think so he is anywhere lesser to commentators compared across the board be it SKY , FOX, Channel 9, 4 etc.

He has done a great job as a commentator and a broadcaster over the years and is right up there among some of the best.

Off late with everything happened his quality has gone down I feel and has been subpar with discussion involving his sub commentators with likes of Gavaskar, Manjrekar and co.

India have down well in my view to get to 170. Get Buttler & Roy early and we might fancy defending this score.

I’ve also come to terms with the Arshdeep axing. He is being viewed as someone below Avesh, Harshal and Malik in the bowling unit. Now I’m not sure if this is actually the best hierarchy but it is good that at least there is a structure being followed compared to the past. Also makes sense to give him a chance in the previous game with this context as it wouldn’t have been fair to bring him on a long tour without seeing how he does in his best format.
I feel Arshdeep is just highly skilled and he is just going to get better.

Jordan’s still a premium death overs bowler IMO with the right captain behind him. Just needs to mix up more length balls with his yorkers to avoid being predictable which he’s been doing in this series.

CSK unfortunately did not quite have a good role for him.

Oh I don’t doubt that, but it is easy to see why they do rate the other blokes ahead of him on paper given that

  • Harshal is a record breaking purple cap bowler who’s shown this season that it wasn’t a one-off.
  • Avesh has consistently picked up wickets too and has done it in multiple roles for two different franchises. Also has a very impressive domestic record and plenty of experience around the Indian setup.
  • Malik is the X-Factor that you sometimes have to back just due to their boundless potential when they’re in a rich vein of form. The last one we had was Gill and we utterly wasted him.

Arshdeep is no doubt going to become a big player though given that he’s the first bloke that I can see fulfilling the Bumrah role and because he is a lefty which we always seem to have a fetish for.

Maybe he struggles in the subcontinent conditions , remember him getting beltered in PSL as well this year.

This is really big. The most talented players do not always translate to being the most effective, especially in Twenty20.

With the bat the best example I can think of is Jamie Overton. He's never hit a T20 fifty and probably only bats about half the time, but in the last two years he's possibly the best in the world at his role, which is to go in and score 20 off 10 at the death.

With the ball, look at Nathan Ellis. Not especially quick or accurate and definitely not tall, but he's phenomenal at his role, which is to vary his pace wildly across a c. 40km/h range and pick up wickets in high-pressure situations. He's really really good at that.

You only get the best out of players if they fit into their role in the team

Its quite unfortunate for cricket fans not to see Bhuvi in full flow swinging the new red ball especially in conditions like these where it suits and favors his kind of bowling.
