Indian Domestic Cricket

Shaw is a fun batsman to watch when he is in the mood. Between him, Padikkal, Gill, Jaiswal and Gaikwad, India should have a huge selection conundrum for the opening spots post Rohit and Dhawan.

mayank and rahul

So Mumbai vs Karnataka in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. The two giants of Indian cricket.

Historically these two teams have put up great contest over the years in the domestic circuit -lately the Ranji Final back in 2009/10 and thrilling quarter final few ago.

Will be interesting to see the match today.

What is wrong with Star Sports? They are not broadcasting Mumbai vs Karnataka?

Balls.

Maybe because the UP vs Gujarat match is in the Arun Jaitley stadium while the Mumbai Karnataka one is in the secondary Delhi stadium?

can be the reason, unlucky to miss out on watching it though

Shaw was ludicrously good and clutch. If he can keep this form up in the IPL, he'll easily be the white ball partner (mainly ODIs) for Rohit going forward.

KL Rahul?

KL Rahul?

I'm not sure if the current management wants him to return to an opening role when he's done well at five as the keeper. I still don't think Pant's playing style suits ODIs well at the moment unless he gains some significant experience to alter it. Kishan might end up challenging Rahul for the keeper's role soon enough.

Rahul's also very sedate when he opens which would basically kill our powerplay chances. We cannot afford a below 60 run partnership in the first ten overs in a modern ODI. Shaw on the other hand has the sort of maniacal attacking skill and energy that very few in our setup have. Still needs to prove his consistency to get back but he has made the best start possible.

What makes you say Pant's playing style isn't suitable for ODIs? Not sure if I agree to be very honest.

Question for all the Indian fans here. If you had to name 5 relatively unknown players who could make an impact at this year's IPL, who would they be?

A List A average of sub-30?

His style is a bit similar to Maxi's. Both are known to be exceptional in T20s due to their flair and aggression when their best format is arguably test cricket and both have underperformed in ODIs.

Pant's strike rotation isn't quite up there with the best and it is always a risk to be relying on a constant stream of boundaries alone to keep your scoring rate up in a fifty over game (unless you're England of course) as your luck eventually runs out. I'm excited to see how he does now with some clarity and confidence in his groove but I wouldn't hold it against him if he doesn't live up to expectations. India's best keeper in List A cricket is arguably Ishan Kishan IMO.
