Indian Domestic Cricket

Mumbai cleaned up that game. We may be getting back to our dominance of the 90's and early 2000's, since we've got a lot of young players!

Yeah, and Kerala will be promoting.

So for how long do Rahane and Pujara need to maintain 50+ averages to be considered to play for India? If this is a zonal issue, then why doesn't Rahane get the go ahead before Rohit Sharma?

Because it is not a zonal issue, it is about their Ranji teams, and who is backing them.

When Rahane came onto the scene he was scene as brash & impatient and most Mumbaikars involved in Mumbai cricket disagreed with Pravin Amre as he seemed to be the only one who saw talent in him if he was developed. Rohit Sharma, I guess he looked special from day 1 even when he didn't score runs. He may not be very consistent but when it comes off some of the shots he plays just look magnificent. So they all jumped on him calling him the next Tendulkar etc.

Ooh Duleep trophy is starting. First game is South Zone vs Central Zone.

South Zone squad: VVS Laxman (capt), S Badrinath, Abhinav Mukund, Robin Uthappa, Rahul Dravid, Arjun Yadav, Dinesh Karthik (wk), R Ashwin, Shadab Jakati, L Balaji, Sreesanth, R Vinay Kumar, Saurabh Bandekar, M Suresh, Anoop Pai.

Central Zone squad: Mohammad Kaif (capt), Umesh Yadav, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Anureet Singh, Robin Bist, Piyush Chawla, Faiz Fazal, Yere Goud, Murali Kartik, Naman Ojha (wk), Pankaj Singh, Parvinder Singh, Jalaj Saxena, Shivakant Shukla, Tanmay Srivastava.

Um...so south zone looks INCREDIBLY overpowered compared to central :D

Why is Anoop Pai there instead of Ravi? Why is Arjun Yadav there? Oh wait....

Very surprising to see Laxman captaining over Dravid. Not that I don't love that VVS is the skip, though. :D

AMAGAD. No Murali Vijay in south zone?! HAHAHAAHAHA. That's laughable.

Robin Uthappa
Abhinav Mukund
Rahul Dravid
VVS Laxman*
Subramanium Badrinath
Dinesh Karthik+
M Suresh/Some Player
L Balaji (2)
R Ashwin
Sreesanth (1)
Vinay Kumar

Looks to be an incredibly balanced team. Towering top order, although Murali Vijay would have been a great addition to this team. The only batsman in the team that hasn't been in the Indian team is Mukund, but he too has represented the country in the u19s and is probably the most talented young opening batsman in India. Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman make the middle order absolutely solid, followed by TN stars Badri and Karthik, both in superb form this season. The number 7 slot will probably go to Yadav because of politics, but I'd give it to the second spinner in Suresh. But this is the only spot i'm unsure of, and leaves a bit of a hole.

Bowling is absolutely superb, the trio in Sreesanth-Balaji-Vinay is an awesome combination and makes it a lethal attack. Spin department seems a little raw but Ashwin is very talented (and can turn it a long way), havn't seen enough of Suresh to make an accurate judgement.

All in all a great looking unit.

Should have picked Gnaneswara Rao, would have been good for the 7th spot.

Oh Dear, Rohit suppose to be absolute crazy at the moment.
Awesome batting by Dinesh. It was 86/6 when he came to bat. 153 runs from 113 balls including 24 boundaries and 6 sixes.

Indeed, a superb batting line up skittled by an unknown bowler to be bailed out by a Dinesh Karthik masterclass, bizarre indeed!

Karthik is god. That is done, sealed and proven. What an innings, 153 off 113, slamming the likes of Pankaj Singh, Bhuvanesh, Praveen, Murali Kartik, Piyush Chawla - all bowlers who could turn up for India - to all parts with just disdain. That too in a situation like 86/6. Get in, he's definitely back in reckoning now. He took Piyush for three slog-swept sixes in a row!

Champion!
