They're just playing the system. Under Indian domestic FC rules, if you win the first innings, you win the game if it is a draw. Thus, if West just bat it out, they effectively eliminate the chances of the match having a result and thus they will go through.Why the hell did West Zone bat again after posting 700+ and North making just under 300. Doesn't make any sense.

It's silly, but that's how the system works.
Yeah, there is no added benefit to win a knockout game. All you need to do is score more runs than the other team and then draw the match. In league fixtures, there's a slight penalty because you get more points for a win. You also get more points for a win by an innings or win by 10 wickets than a normal win.WOW well that is weird, don't make much sense to have it that way.
