Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Jaydev Unadkat as the Captain probably comes out as a surprise. I mean this isn't Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy when you can bank on some weak teams and win the tournament. His poor performance with the ball adds to the misery. Don't know what RR were thinking. :spy

Enough of McClenaghan now. In the past he used to concede runs but at the same time used to get wickets in a bulk. But last 2 seasons he isn't even managing to take wickets and being a retired player he is very much off his bowling now. Time to blood someone else in his place now.
Yea, he is still in the squad because MI likes to keep the core intact. Same with malinga, honestly apart from last over in the final in 2019, Malinga didn't do much.

I felt getting a spinner was a wise choice considering we only have Chahar and Krunal. Roy I haven't seen much but being on bench for last 2 years I don't think he would suddenly turn up and do well or else he would've already made the team by now.
I feel they are banking on Jayant Yadav

Also, even an overseas spinner wouldn't have made the cut in the 11 considering other options, MI always picks 4 overseas quicks, its somewhat a norm now for them. Last year it were likes of Adam Milne, Behrendorff, Malinga and McClenaghan (not to forget Alzari Joseph as a replacement)

Pattinson, seriously? Where will we adjust him?
On the bench :p[DOUBLEPOST=1599115392][/DOUBLEPOST]
And he isn't playing this year. :rolleyes
Steve Smith isn't playing IPL?

Not confirmed but they have made Unadkat the Captain in his absence. Smith won't be allowed to play till 26th Sept because of him playing the series in England. I guess it's same for Warner, Buttler and Finch. But SRH haven't yet announced the replacement till the time Warner is available so I don't know whether it's true.

Yup it's been a trend in recent seasons, with 4 quicks in the squad

Expecting to see this lineup
Lynn
De Kock
Sky
Rohit
Pollard
Pandya
Pandya
Jayant/Kulkarni
Boult
Chahar
Bumrah

Or NCN can come in for kulkarni
And i kishan at the top for Lynn
Mcclenaghan needs to be 4th choice pacer now, he concedes way too many runs

Accomodate anyone anywhere, Rohit should open... Period.

Agree with @NilayShah60 that McClenaghan has fallen off a cliff these days.

Coulter-Nile does not even have a state team now. Granted, Western Australia probably have a surplus of pacers usually but he still has not been picked up by another team. He is another one who has fallen off badly.

Patto's main issue will most likely be staying fit (like most of his career) and bowling variations as I did not see him use them much in the BBL. However he should be the clear secondary overseas pacer ahead of NCN and McClenaghan.

Mind you, MI spent 8 cr on NCN

Pretty sure Rajasthan will have only three overseas players until the ones on international duty return. And that might be a big if too in the case of players like Stokes. Every team up against them until then will have to fancy their chances heavily.

Unadkat as the dreaded 'temporary' captain is interesting. He has been a valuable leader for Saurashtra but the IPL is a whole different ball game. Someone like Miller for example will have to wonder why he wasn't chosen. In any case I'm excited to see a domestic captain who has a proven record.

Jaishwal
Vohra
Uthappa
Samson
Miller:os:
Parag
Gopal
Markande
Unadkat:c:
Tye:os:
Thomas:os:

That is a very weak lineup on paper. They've invested too much resources into backups for their bowlers when an additional batting all-rounder or batsman would have made more sense.
