Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Pretty sure Rajasthan will have only three overseas players until the ones on international duty return. And that might be a big if too in the case of players like Stokes. Every team up against them until then will have to fancy their chances heavily.

Unadkat as the dreaded 'temporary' captain is interesting. He has been a valuable leader for Saurashtra but the IPL is a whole different ball game. Someone like Miller for example will have to wonder why he wasn't chosen. In any case I'm excited to see a domestic captain who has a proven record.

Jaishwal
Vohra
Uthappa
Samson
Miller:os:
Parag
Gopal
Markande
Unadkat:c:
Tye:os:
Thomas:os:

That is a very weak lineup on paper. They've invested too much resources into backups for their bowlers when an additional batting all-rounder or batsman would have made more sense.
I feel it is better to let Uthappa open with Vohra and Yashasvi Jaiswal should bat at 4 considering how destructive he is against the spinners. Samson and Uthappa can act as accumulators while Vohra should be someone who should take on the attack to the opposition in the Powerplay. I would give Yashasvi as many overs to bat in the middle overs than early in the innings.

Unadkat to me doesn't look to be a wise choice because his bowling looks so bad in IPL since he has left the RPS camp and to burden him with the Captaincy is something that could prove to be catastrophic both for him and the RR camp. I hope it is the other way around.

Interesting to see which side of the bed Mumbai Indians is going to get out of, for this year's IPL. This is an even year (2020) and Mumbai win titles on odd year (2013, 2015, 2017, 2019). Yes, they're the best team of the IPL and have the perfect mixture of youth and experience and the overflowing options.

Unadkat is the captain of Rajasthan Royals? Seriously, I don't know what they're thinking. I would give it to a guy like Samson. Anyways wonder where Rajasthan are headed with their team. Looks very lackluster. Hope the likes of Stokes, Buttler, Smith help them out really well. I hope I am proven wrong

Harbhajan Singh is also out of IPL now. Feeling sad for Dhoni, two very experienced & core players of CSK will not play in IPL 2020. Who will replace Bhajjipa now? :rolleyes

They are too dependent on their 4 overseas, who are top class, but other than that it has been a poor setup since their comeback
Though it will be exciting to see how Jaiswal and Parag play

CSK have lost a Powerplay bowler, something that Dhoni likes having. I see Jalaj Saxena being drummed up as a "possible replacement" for Harbhajan. I hope CSK can pick Jalaj Saxena as the replacement.

Or if RCB don't use Washington Sundar enough in the first half of the IPL, CSK can plan on getting Sundar during the mid-season trading window. Sundar played only 3 games for RCB last season (among a total of 14 league games). The previous year (2018), he only played 7 games out of 14.

CSK have agreed to start the IPL off by playing the first game, despite the reduced training period due to their COVID issues. I think it's a good move, as it will keep CSK on their toes for the remaining part of their training period as they race to get as ready as possible to face their biggest nemesis, MI, which is the only team that holds the wood over CSK in IPL. Also, this could give MI a false sense of security that CSK might be undercooked.

Damn excited for the IPL to start in 2 weeks. But I hope IPL somehow does a better job of recreating the stadia atmosphere/noise that CPL and international cricket has so far failed to do so. There is this expectation that this IPL could be ruled by younger players, for whom stadium noise adds to the pressure and pulls them down. But this IPL could also be a bad thing for players who thrive when playing under pressure. This makes me worried about CSK as its mostly an experienced set of players who have thrived playing under pressure and crowds. With no crowds, can they keep their levels up? Can sense a better year for RCB this time.

I dont think CSK are short of anything here, I know they lost 3-4 major players, but that is why they have 24 players in the squad!

I am not talking about losing players. I am talking about losing the time that they could've spent training. MI started training more than a week ago and CSK have just started training yesterday (this is because CSK were forced to quarantine due to their players testing positive).

Again, I don't think that will matter on 19th

The thing which will matter will be that who is able to handle the game pressure well and show composure.

Damn, had banter with my csk friends, but tbh, we'll lose the opener, last time we won a season opener was way back in 2011, and was against CSK! Let's hope for the best, it's no sense but I love to predict, my top 4:

DC
MI
RCB/SRH/CSK/KXIP(2)

Actually 2012 which was still an unlucky start since we lost an in-form Sachin in the first half of the tournament to injury. Also we nearly beat them in 2018 until Bravo played that once in a blue moon knock.

Okay some quick stat here. In last 10 matches between Mumbai and Chennai, Chennai have won just 2 while Mumbai have won 8. Mumbai lost all their matches against CSK as early as in 2014 IPL. So they would definitely be looking to extend their dominance. CSK won't be taken lightly at all is what I believe.
