Indian Premier League - General Discussion

SRH has been the worst at the auctions. We’ve literally had the same problem for 3 years, but have never fixed it. Then we made it much worse, by selling out Shikhar Dhawan.

Williamson deserves a permanant place in the XI, but it means leaving out someone like a Nabi, who could contribute both in batting and bowling.

Oh I completely forgot about the Shikhar Dhawan thing. See how it fits that narrative of "lets stuff our top order with flashy and brutal hitters". By doing that, they have left themselves a hole in the middle order. I would have had one of Warner or Bairstow open with Dhawan and the other guy bat down the order (most likely Bairstow at No. 3). That way, you have Kane at 4, Pandey at 5 and your top order looks good enough where you just need to plug small holes in the lower middle order (Shankar is decent there, especially when your Top 5 is capable of winning you most games). Now they have literally fluffed it.

I don't see a good season for SRH from here as their weaknesses are pretty glaring. And they don't have a magical wand like an MS Dhoni to carry the limited/scarce resources through. Williamson could do that as captain, but they want Warner to captain.

Wow rcb had no business winning this game.. But well. Not complaining :lol:p

In all honesty RCB had a pretty good game with the exception of plenty of little mistakes that added up made a big impact. All the bowlers barring Umesh were good and unlike in the past the batting was for the most part sensible and formulaic which is something that they've sorely lacked. Get an overseas all-rounder in for Philippe, hand the gloves to AB and the team might legitimately challenge for the crown particularly if Hesson and Katich can make Kohli follow better plans.[DOUBLEPOST=1600711713][/DOUBLEPOST]
That isn’t the reason Williamson doesn’t find a place in the XI. The main problem is that SRH don’t have quality domestic all rounders, forcing them to go with Nabi (or Marsh today)

I reckon you could take the risk and have Rashid at seven if Williamson is comfortable batting at four. But that is a big IF.

Its this lust of "flashy hitters" that makes people think Williamson doesn't fit that narrative. IMHO, Williamson is my "close your eyes and pick" candidate.

Also I would have retained Yusuf Pathan. Yes he has been very inconsistent but he also has this aura of "he can come in and singlehandedly bash the bowling and take SRH home". Just for that reputation, I would have retained Yusuf Pathan.
I think Marsh's injury obviously disrupted things, without him there the middle order looked weak. It'd be why I'd have considered Pandey dropping to four if they know Marsh can't bat (which he clearly couldn't)..

I think having two overseas players in the same role, as openers (of course Bairstow keeps) leaves you a bit unbalanced. I'd take Williamson over Warner for a top order (he's opened too) batsman and have him as captain.

A big no no to not having Warner in the team. Warner is the greatest overseas batsman the IPL has seen and has the perfect blend of aggression and consistency to win you games. He is also a very shrewd captain who has already led his team to the trophy over a very strong RCB side four years ago.

It is a bit unlucky for Williamson as a batsman of his quality is usually expensive to have as a backup but there is no way Warner is being dropped. He is the embodiment of this franchise and a massive fan favourite whose axing could result in genuine protests.

Williamson as captain will do SRH a lot of good. I know Warner won an IPL title in 2016 (I don't remember that season at all now to analyze what went right for Warner the captain), but he doesn't strike me as a captain who can "make things happen". Williamson to me, gives that vibe just like an MS Dhoni.

I wouldn't drop Warner at all, but I am not sure if he's as shrewd a captain as you're saying it to be.

Bring in Williamson in place of Marsh, SRH will do good. Williamson can bowl a over or two as well.

On second thoughts given that 160s might be par totals as seen in the short period so far, I reckon Williamson can do a very capable job even at four. A classic innings from him close to a 130 strike-rate might actually be useful in most scenarios.

I agree with you both @SaiSrini @Bevab :thumbs

However, it does seem a bit of a waste, or poor planning, to have three big players like that if you can't accommodate all of them.

It is a bit of a freak problem as normally world class batsmen don't go for that cheap. Williamson and Bairstow combined cost just 5.2 crores. That is how much Kolkata are paying Eoin Morgan in total. I reckon the interest in Williamson will be massive in the next mega-auction and SRH will let go of him as Bayliss does not fancy him that much either.

Williamson is definitely a fantastic captain but I rate Warner on par with him at the very least and the value he adds to the side on and off the field is incredible too. It has been a while since he captained Hyderabad proper but I reckon he'll show exactly why he is thought of as highly this season. For one, he gets the best out of Bhuvi and is generally spot on with the rotation of his bowlers and fielding placements. There is a reason why there were several calls from fans to make him the limited overs captain of Australia in place of Smith before the whole sandpaper saga.

Fingers crossed (for SRH letting go of Williamson).. And my second double fingers crossed for CSK to have Williamson in their minds if SRH lets him go :p:D:yes

We would be mad to pass up on the opportunity to not get him in as our next captain. Fleming should have made some impromptu calls to him already by now! :spy

Yeah, i expect Bairstow's value would rise too after his form in the last couple of years.

RCB!!! :lol

I have a feeling Kohli sees Dube as a death bowler!! Why did we buy Morris after paying 10 crore for him? And it will take an Einstein to understand why Sundar bowled 1 over on that track?!!?!

The result went our way thanks to AB and Chahal but nothing has changed.

If there was a dud of the match award, Kohli would get it.
