Indian Premier League - General Discussion

This game has hugely exposed the middle order woes for SRH. An explosive top order but numbers 4, 5, 6 have little to no experience at all. The injury to Marsh doesn't look good so I guess Williamson can get a look in now.

But even with that, all the opposition bowlers require are 3 deliveries to put SRH in trouble. Manish, who had a decent outing, is still a question mark in terms of consistency and happens to gobble up a lot of deliveries. Vijay Shankar isn't dependable yet. So plenty of worries ahead for SRH and I was surprised to see that many are of the opinion that SRH will be in the top 4.

SRH definitely missed Williamson yesterday. I was infact surprised to see Williamson not even being in the side. I felt SRH somehow just lost their plot in their run-chase. At one stage it looked that Bairstow would alone take SRH home but then that collapse was absolutely horrific. I do feel to an extent that RCB actually has got a better side this time around. Yes, they definitely look weak in some areas as compared to the other sides but let us not forget that RCB has been so poor in last 3 seasons that a win like this brings a new life to the side. I was actually pleased to see that start RCB got putting on 90 for the first wicket but then the weak middle order to follow they looked out of sorts. Dube in the middle order is a complete misfit in the side. Umesh Yadav somehow needs to be bowled out in just one spell at the top, with the new ball he would definitely do good but he somehow needs to get his line right. He can't just bowl at the legs of the batsman. The way Saini bowled last night would bring about a big sigh of relief for RCB bowling line-up. He definitely looks the best of the lot this time considering he bowled poorly last season this looks certainly very refreshing. Paddikal's inclusion is actually like a blessing to this side in all honesty. I would like to just conclude with this that, "RCB have definitely got the side this time."

Bangalore's ideal line up

Paddikal
Kohli
Gurkeerat
Moeen Ali
AB de Villiers (wk)
Dube
Morris
Steyn/Zampa
Umesh
Saini
Chahal

This is a poor squad because we have no domestic batting and very poor fast bowling overseas options. Steyn is not a death bowler at the best of times, certainly not in the twilight of his career.

I think for Kohli to be Kohli, he must open. I think instead of him and AB batting together, they should be separated. I think Finch is extremely single dimensional and I think Moeen Ali is VASTLY underrated. He plays spin very well, bats in the middle order where RCB are very weak and provides a good off spin option. I think crucially, and tragically AB needs to bat in the last 6-7 overs and nothing prior. That's their plight. Gurkeerat at 3 as there's frankly nobody else and he seems to be hitting the ball 'OK.'

I think Steyn and Umesh can be lethal up top and they should get a free licence to go at 10's in the PP but look for wickets. I still feel Zampa should play and not Steyn leaving Morris and Saini to bowl the death.

This is an average side and it will need those two mega batters and two India international bowlers to have a massive tournament for this clown camp to qualify. Udana is a fabulous buy, but I think that's for later in the tournament and hopefully Bangalore are not out of the league by then.
If you are dropping Finch then you should go with this lineup.

Paddikal
Parthiv
Virat
ABD
Moeen Ali
Morris
Shivam/Gurkeerat
Steyn/Zampa/Udana
Umesh
Saini
Chahal

Good to see RCB starting off the campaign with a win. As I already said, Devdutt Padikkal is the best thing happened to RCB after KL Rahul. Both, Padikkal & Rahul give a similar vibe to me. There is the same middle order issue that we have had after Rahul was released for Sarfaraz Khan. Bowling was good, and Chahal had to perform and take us home, which he did.

Little bit of concern about Umesh. He lacks confidence and is leaking too many runs. I would infact go with Udana, in place of Umesh in the next game. SRH bowled really well in the final overs and same was replicated by RCB bowlers. You can't say SRH gave away the win, but RCB snatched it from SRH. I'm saying this because even RCB collapsed after Padikkal got out. What looked like 180+ score, turned out to be just 163. SRH dearly missed Williamson. Their middle order needs revamp for sure. Laxman will do it for them. :)

After the first match of season for RCB, I'm getting a fair idea on what might be our playing XI. Interesting argument from one of the retired international player (from Karnataka) is that Pavan Deshpande can be as effective as Padikkal. And he is a middle order batsman. If Finch is dropped, Partiv comes in and he will keep. That means Phillipe must be benched and Morris will play. Pavan Deshpande can replace Sundar. He can bowl couple of overs too.

Patel (wk)
Padikkal
Kohli
Deshpande
ABD
Dube/Singh
Morris
Chahal
Steyn
Saini
Umesh (last chance)

Ruturaj Gaikwad makes his debut for CSK after recovering from COVID, but replacing Rayudu? What suddenly happened to Rayudu that he has been ruled "unwell"? Hope its not something bad.... Disappointing that Rayudu misses out after a Man of the Match performance.

Hahaha.... Loved it!!![DOUBLEPOST=1600783956][/DOUBLEPOST]Don't think Jaiswal opening the innings was a good move.

Only caught his dismissal, how did he look? He is an opener after all...

Smith as an opener.. and sending in Samson now are interesting moves.

Ngidi really should not be bowling in the powerplay, he looks a completely different bowler post injury.

Samson will hit century.

Both the players have been on fire so far. Might be a big chase this one.

Samson!! Wish he was consistent, he is such a clean hitter of the ball. 11 overs 130/1 is fire!! Piyush Chawla has bowled 6780 overs in his career and yet bowls like a newbie. The reason he has never been part of the international side.. his inconsistency is on another level. You will never know what side of Chawla will show up today.

With Raydu out, this is a big blow for CSK, anything over 200 (Which is sure shot right now), I do not see CSK chasing.

As long as Parag is in the dugout, I have faith in CSK to restrict them to below 200.

Jeez.. not another umpiring controversy. :facepalm[DOUBLEPOST=1600789017][/DOUBLEPOST]

At least they made the right call in the end.
