Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Might sound controversial but I feel like it is only a matter of time before Ngidi gets figured out unless he happens to up his pace to where he once was. If Dhoni is going to play almost exclusively as a specialist keeper plus captain like Sarfaraz Ahmed we will need all the all-rounders required and Bravo to replace him as a death bowler is not the worst idea.

Ngidi bowled well in the first game and was the reason why we restricted MI to a chaseable total. He had a bad game today especially with the no-balls. As Dhoni said, if those no-balls were controlled, CSK could've been chasing 200-205 and it would've been a very good game. Ngidi is still the bowler I would have at the death. Bravo the death bowler has been on a consistent decline for a few seasons now and though I did not watch the CPL, I also read reports from CPL 2020 that Bravo's death bowling abilities are still continuing on the decline. Cant put it all on Deepak Chahar and Curran is not really death bowling material.

Just to lighten the mood - Indian fans can understand this better. :p :lol:lol

The CSK bowlers lost this for us pretty badly. They also need dressing downs after the game. Bringing this down to a 20 or below run loss will do well for CSK

I think the bowlers did a decent job overall based on the wicket and how short the boundaries were - if not for Ngidi's unusual brain freeze in the last over, CSK might have actually chased down 200 odd runs if he had given away 15 runs instead of 30 runs. That was just an off day. The fact that they got so close to the target shows that the pitch was not as slow as Samson said during the innings break (could be mind games) and dew factor had definitely kicked in during the second half.

If I had to assign blame, I would put it more on Vijay - 21(21) while chasing 218 is just not acceptable in powerplay. Even Faf was 17 off 18 until Dhoni arrived, and then Dhoni was 9 off 12 until the last over. Atleast a SR of 120 was needed, and it seems like that was possible, based on the hitting that happened in the last few overs.

Something that is being forgotten amidst all of this Ngidi and Chawla trash talk on social media of how CSK could have won without those Ngidi no balls or massive overs is that Rajasthan had basically succumbed to complacency by the point of the death overs. It still needed some outstanding hitting from Faf to come anywhere close. Case in point, look at the Jofra over. He was bowling slower ball after slower ball just to get the overs done until Faf waited for one and hit a six. Then Jofra realising the potential danger of complacency switched to the quicker bouncer and got him out on the very next ball. With no disrespect to our skipper, Curran was just trying his best to bowl six legal deliveries in the last over without much regards to accuracy and that is how we had this rather 'close' finish.

Quite simply put, had RR posted something like 202, Chennai would have still lost by leaving the game too late then scoring a few quick runs banking on complacency to minimize the NRR loss. This was one of the games where despite the marginal run difference, Chennai were almost never truly in the game. A CSK tale as old as time.

Leaving the H2H behind, it's gonna be a challenge for us today, the top 6 for KKR are arguably the best in the season with Morgan DK and Russell, jeez but on the contrary, apart from Cummins, the lack quality in the bowling, yes Nagarkoti is quick but he's still young and inexperienced so is Mavi and Krishna, I have a feeling they'd play Ali Khan.

Predicted XIs:

Mumbai: If NCN's fit, he'll come in for Patti but if he's not, Patti did a fairly awesome job with both bat and ball.

Rohit Sharma
Quinton de Kock
Suryakumar Yadav
Saurabh Tiwary
Kieron Pollard
Hardik Pandya
Krunal Pandya
Nathan Coulter-Nile/James Pattinson
Rahul Chahar
Trent Boult
Jasprit Bumrah

Kolkata Knight Riders:
Sunil Narine
Shubman Gill
Nitish Rana
Eoin Morgan
Dinesh Karthik
Andre Russell
??(Nikhil Naik/Rinku Singh)
Pat Cummins
Kamlesh Nagarkoti
Kuldeep Yadav
Shivam Mavi/Prasidh Krishna

No 7 is a concern for them, they could draft in Lad and move Narine down as well.

Rinku was wonderful in Ranji Trophy last season and packs quite a punch with his aggression. I have high hopes for him given that he is one of the few natural middle-order batsmen who are also young and brimming with potential. Can also bowl an over of part-time filth if required.

Another alternative would be to have Tripathi in the team and move everyone one position down while he slots in at three. After his performances and antics last season, I expect Russell to bat at four or at the most five. Morgan and DK do not mind batting down the order and would be fine with it.

The number of currently match fit players who are also acquainted with the SRH dressing room and can provide what Mitch Marsh does (at least a pale imitation of it) must be a venn diagram with only Holder in it.
Moises Henriques and Ben Cutting say hi!

Finally a match where I am supporting a team.. go KKR! The Burj Khalifa thing was awesome! What a welcome to KKR

I really wanna see Chris Green and Sunil Narine bowling in tandem in the later stages of the IPL. Would be great!
