Indian Premier League - General Discussion

I really loathe these games. Just no contest between bat and ball. Let's just throw the bowlers out and have a range hitting competition.

We are slowly but surely, killing spin bowling.

Wankhede is getting worse and worse on this front... And then Chinnaswamy is coming next!

Who would care to be a bowler? Even MSD was forced to pack his batting XI with batsmen till No. 11 in the last game. Hope Delhi and Ahmedabad really balances things out. This IPL should not end up being a "range hitting fest". And these guys crib about Chepauk's slowness. :noway :facepalm

Rishabh Pant or Kishan might have won that game for their respective team.. Just saying! Sanju Samson has talent oozing out from him, its his inconsistency that leads to other keepers being better. That was a crazy innings and would have loved if he would have taken his team over the line and won. Someone is going to have a sleepless night :spy !

Cannot wait for DC vs RR :p

I am amazed at the tactics side of things with MS. I think you need 6 bowlers these days in white ball cricket and really the pitches we have had in the last three months, you need 7 because your two spinners are going to get clattered.

CSK have to play Behrendoff and Tahir. I think you have to pick wicket taking options. You just have no hope if you don't.

Gaekwad
Uthappa (I think Uthappa is vastly underrated with the record he has as opener in the IPL)
Raina
Ali
Dhoni
Jadeja
Curran
Thakur
Chahar
Behrendoff
Tahir

One more thing which nobody will mention since Punjab won but I thought it was outright lunacy to bowl Arshdeep the 20th and not 19th. KL has definitely graduated from KUC.

Those two you mentioned are not from this planet. We lose "context" when we analyse things and this was a pitch where 200 was par, with due probably 220. Rajasthan and Punjab are not slick bowling attacks.

Sanju is very gifted but in this generation with 3 people capable of keeping and batting better than him, he stands no chance.

There's a reason KL is still wicketkeeping and that is to ensure he has a second wing if it means getting the chance to represent India and while he's not innocent of lapses in concentration, he's a significant upgrade on Samson in that department.

I am not denying that Sanju does not have talent. I think it was more of a failed attempt to rile someone who has been a troll for way too long now :p ! Sanju is born in a generation where KL will be given ample opportunity, Pant will have his moments and Kishan will always be the backup. Its like the old days where MSD was a sure shot, DK will get his chances and Parthiv will only remain backup.

WRONG!

Other than your comment on the troll.

Samson was given opportunities before a lot of these keepers and even recently did. He didn't make it and to be honest didn't get a long run either.

Pant will have his moments? He's a once in a lifetime talent and I am fed up of saying this on this forum. Kishan will himself make a name for himself as a white ball talent.

DK and Parthiv both got ample chances and both before Dhoni. MS is not like some magical talent. He was just ahead of his time, street smart and just an out and out survivor! What I mean by that? MS could have done anything in his life and he would have been successful. He just had his heart in the right place in life as a person and he has that one quality most lack and that is to ride the crest of the wave when the tide is rough. If Pant gets 50% of that, my lord we are in for a ride!

Again probably did not put it across correctly.

KL Rahul - He is that batsman/wicket keeper player who will keep getting chances because he is that kind of player. HE is like Suresh Raina of yesteryear.
Rishabh Pant - When I said he will have his moments, I meant that he will keep working hard, he will keep knocking hard for his place. Example him having his moment in Australia. He will keep making his name and will be really hard to ignore.
Ishan Kishan - He will not feature regularly as long as KL Rahul and Pant are part of the team. He can however bat as a specialist batsman if Rohit retires. He will still have a lot of competition in Gill and Shaw.

I think we are both barking at the same tree, both have the right thought, just written differently.

In 2013 both Maxwell and Chahal played for Mumbai Indians and Mumbai won their first IPL title.
In 2021 both Maxwell and Chahal are playing for RCB...

I disagree, Samson did the right thing. Morris could have struck a boundary and won the game maybe, but Samson could have done the same and won it in the super over the way he was striking.
I wanted to sleep early yesterday and didn't wanted RR to lose after Samson's effort. Nothing tactical but just a little selfish motive. :lol

I'd probably want the ground to swallow me if that happened in a game I play with friends, let alone a professional one. Morris took it far better than I expected IMO.
I assume that it actually happened to you once or twice while playing with your friends. :p

Really liking this year's IPL. RCB won brilliantly a few days ago and it was a thrilling game last night. Samson played a blinder. Unlucky for him to be unable to finish the game, but a great effort.

IPL's graphics, coverage, etc are all top-notch. One area where it was miles ahead of the rest is the quality of foreign players, but I feel like it has deteriorated this time. Chris Morris going for 17 Crores, seriously? du Plessis, Cutting, Meredith, Christian, Henriques, etc is not the same crop of foreigners that once used to be in the IPL. Cutting, Christian, and Morris were surprising picks for me.

Nevertheless, as I said earlier, the IPL has been great fun to follow as always. This season seems like a nail-biting one!
