Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Many idiots are barking on social media that the whole IPL is fixed. Yesterday, Ambani, and today, Mallya.

When a team scores 80 runs in the last 5 overs while chasing, they call it a thriller match. But when a team defends 30 runs in 30 balls, they call it match-fixing.
They clearly haven't watched enough cricket to have witnessed classic chokes.

Best to ignore these idiots

SRH needed 20 off 18.

Punjab Kings XI Punjab needed 22 from 18.

Australia needed 39 from 36 with nine wickets in hand.

That's three matches I remember from last season where the team chasing lost from an easy position. Sometimes it happens.

I saw about five minutes of yesterday's match though cause I fell asleep on the sofa and had a seven hour nap.

I think most people are shocked about the last two games simply because we've been programmed with trends and an overload of data. The moment the pitch offers a little in it for the bowlers, everything becomes more about "sport and cricket" than computers and excel files.

I don't care what the format is, make a pitch that gives every skill a chance. I have no interest in an Ahmedabad test match that ends in 1.5 days and no interest in a T20 where more runs are scored in 40 overs than in two innings of a test match.

Balance is life. Something missing in this day and age.

No Shahbaz. No Maxwell. Pacers have bowled more than spinners on a track that is suited to spin.
I did not feel the pitch had enough spin. It was just a little slow. Any pacer who would not provide much pace to the batsman is as effective as a spinner on the Chepauk track used in this year's IPL.

SRH needs to make a bold move and play Rashid Khan at 7..... Unfortunately Saha misses out but they can play their best batsman in Warner, Bairstow & Kane Williamson

Bairstow (wk) :os:
Warner (c) :os:
Pandey
Kane Williamson :os:
Priyam Garg (why is he out?)
Abhishek Sharma (clearly underutilized)
Rashid Khan :os:
Bhuvneshwar Kumar
Sandeep Sharma
Shahbaz Nadeem
T Natarajan

Edit: Oh and how did I forget Abdul Samad. :facepalm

Samad for either of Garg or Abhishek would do. I would say Samad should play for Abhishek since that increases the batting depth. Garg should be a lock-in at 5 or 6.

Feels like deja vu @NilayShah60 :p

There's a vast difference in the trajectory. One art gets dip and flight, as a result of which you can deceive a batsman in the air and if you don't bowl half volleys, it's very hard to get under. On the other hand, any medium pacer would almost always have a flatter trajectory and while it may come off slow from the wicket, if you read the pace you can get under it because there's no dip or variation in the air in terms of flight. There was also plenty of sideways movement and natural variation. While typing the post itself I can recall Harshal Patel bowling an off cutter to Pandey which cut him in half and almost took the leg stump.

That's the reason Rohit chose himself over Jansen.

I love how all the experts are heaping praise on Kohli for holding Shahbaz back. :lol

I mean, Maxwell was an option to bowl as well and Sundar who just bowled 2? I might be wrong but I recall about 8/9 overs of pace being bowled to Warner on that track and he was bossing the chase till he threw it away. It was just a masterclass in atrocious leadership but we are a result oriented country that have a horrific lust for stats.

I haven't seen much of Shahbaz and I think 25 matches are way too less to have good stats so I don't have anything to say about him. I can understand why you wouldn't want Maxwell to bowl because he would at best save few runs while he would struggle to pick-up wickets. I cannot stop wondering why Kohli doesn't realise the importance of Sundar bowling in the powerplay. I remember that spell from Sundar in the Qualifier 1 match of 2017 IPL where he took the wickets of Rohit and Pollard in back to back overs which literally killed MI's run chase in the first 10 overs itself. He is very effective when used well. I think 4 years are more than enough for even an average Captain to realise it.

If the IPL gets cancelled right now and the table topper will get a trophy then...
RCB will win their maiden IPL title:D:D
