Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Finally! Oh dear lord, NOT AB and please now let's lift one title once the mess clears up!
And suddenly AB retires and the dream is over!!! :p

Jokes apart, even I want AB to win something. That however doesn't define him, he was bigger than that!

With all due respect Manish Pandey have played better knocks this season than Saurabh Tiwary's knock today.
It'd been better getting out slogging rather than the crap he did with a 50 off 40, no intent absolutely. With Rohit and Hardik out it was always gonna be a huge ask but the way Milne and Boult started off, it's us who threw it away moreover CSK winning it. Just bring Ro and Hardik in plus maybe a Anukul over the poor man's Ajay Devgan (Krunal) and we're fine.

Stunning, literally stunning knock that from Ruturaj Gaikwad!! He continues his dream journey that he started last year in the final 3 games for CSK in UAE conditions. This is his 4th consecutive MoM award in an IPL game in UAE conditions!!! Normally he starts off with a lot of rust, but I guess that India call up in the T20I series in Sri Lanka finally helped him stabilize himself mentally and put him on a way better frame of mind!! That final ball sweep for six off Bumrah was jaw dropping!! To smash the world's best T20 bowler like that from outside off stump for a swept six, was extraordinary!!

Thanks to Bravo and Faf for preserving themselves in the latter stages of the CPL, so that they can turn up for CSK in IPL. I know the league priorities will be talked about, but Bravo and his tryst with MI continues. He conjures up miracles outta nowhere when he faces to MI. Same way that Pollard does against CSK.

For 75% of the game, I did not expect CSK to pull this off! I am not going to credit MSD at all for today. This win was purely orchestrated by Ruturaj and Bravo. Hope MSD finds a way to deal with the Raina sized problem. Raina looked horrendous today - like a laughing stock! He needs serious protection when facing fast bowlers. Maybe move Raina down to 6 if he is really needed, or drop him for an Uthappa or Jagadeesan if he (Raina) fails another match. We got outta jail today, but we might not be this lucky often

Scored a half-century. Job done.
Saved his place for the next 3 matches.

This is not RCB/PBKS/DC, it's MI!!! You are purely picked on your performance unless you are Rohit Sharma (don't quite remember him being consistent for MI post-2016).

Went to the game yesterday, that was a great match to watch. Mostly CSK fans in the crowd with some MI fans but overall a great atmosphere and an entertaining game. Gaikwad played one hell of a knock to get CSK to a par score on that track, some of those shots looked amazing in person, especially the paddle-sweep shot he played off Bumrah for six. Clearly that's the reason Dhoni backs him, he played the situation perfectly, and went hard after passing fifty. Was expecting the worse when CSK were essentially 24/5 and looked like they'd fold under 100, but glad to have witnessed a match that seemed close at one point.

Saurabh Tiwary was struggling for the most part of his innings, wasn't finding any timing. MI needed someone to play a quickfire knock like Bravo did to ease some of the pressure off Tiwary. He did well to hold up one end though, but no one else around him fired either.

Was a bit of an overstatement considering we did not have Hardik Pandya. It looked the game was done and dusted in the Powerplay itself when MI lost 3 wickets.

Nope. Until Pollard got out, MI was very much in it! He was fresh from that miraculous exploit against CSK in Delhi in the first half of this season. And he started off as well here also. Losing wickets in the Powerplay was done by both teams and MI were better capable of doing what Rutu/Jadeja/Bravo did in the first innings.

And that is why I feel MSD going to Hazlewood was a game-changer. I can bet this team is capable of winning the title. They look much better as compared to 2018 & 2019(the previous years when they played the Finals). That game against RR have got a lot to do with CSK's campaign this season. Just the game when they turned things around I believe. In the initial 2 games which they lost, Dhoni's leadership looked way too outdated. And then came that KKR game which they won because of Deepak Chahar's spell, followed by that game against PBKS. The RR game there were some issues and they looked like losing that one but eventually destroyed RR's batting line-up. They did the same to RCB. The Delhi game against MI was just an off day.

It's good someone bought this up. Raina's innings was awful beyond imagination. I think his achievements are vastly underrated in this generation but last night he was scared of the ball. Period.

Maybe that spell from Shami and Riley Meredith have affected him mentally that he might look out of sorts and throw away his wicket. Maybe he was trying to survive than to score runs. I've seen a Sachin Tendulkar struggle against Trent Boult when I was a 12 y/o. Tendulkar's woes were such in that series that it made an impression hard to forget. Ponting that year looked similar when he faced Morkel at The Gabba and WACA. The age that Raina is in, to have a lean patch can affect you mentally.

RCB are a terrible batting side!!!! I really hate watching them bat. No intent shown whatsoever. No one apart from AB de Villiers & Maxwell makes this side for their batting. Paddikal can still make the side.
