Indian Premier League - General Discussion

I think RCB just had the most perfect game and this just clicks all departments for them.

First things first, I think dropping Hasaranga for Jamieson was just another regular thing for RCB and I would say that it made the least sense on turning wickets like these.

That start from Kohli and Bharat was amazing but I felt Kohli just lost momentum and hence that 42-ball 51. I still feel he could've done better.

I couldn't believe how Rohit wasted a review on Maxwell on an appeal that clearly had no logic behind it. Chahar said no, De Kock said no but Rohit went for it.

Bumrah was once again brilliant with the ball. He got 3 wickets in the last game and 3 wickets today (that included De Villiers & Maxwell). I think 165 was slightly under par.

Maxwell just had perfect game as he scored a half century and got 3 wickets. I felt Rohit went for a shot a little too early. Maybe that break where he hurt his hand disturbed his momentum plus a quiet over meant he was going for it. Can't blame him much tbh.

Kohli was spot on with his decision to persist with Maxwell and also not bowling Chahal in the Powerplay.

On to the Harshal Patel hat-trick. I just saw it coming after he got out Pollard and Rahul Chahar joined him at the crease.

I don't think MI can make it now considering that they would need to win atleast 3 of the next 4.

You know, why RCB was able to defend it?
Because I turned off my TV after 10th over of 2nd inning (I thought MI got it, NO Chance now!), and just now googled it to see by how much wickets MI won but the results were shocking and the score card told the complete story.
Purple Patel Hat-trick!!! just Amazing... :clap

Why Hardik did not bowl? Is he planning not to bowl in IPL and directly bowl in World Cup and play as 3rd pacer in playing XI?

Purely law of averages!! I cant see MI suddenly becoming such a bad team that they are roasted all over. Yes it does give me some biased happiness as a CSK fan that an "always running away with titles" MI team is struggling, but from a neutral perspective, its ridiculous that panic buttons are being pressed all over social media on the form of Kishan, SKY, etc. I do think Hardik needs a backup in someone like a Shardul Thakur (who I think should replace Axar in the India World T20 squad) and Shardul should be preferred if Hardik is not ready enough to bowl but apart from that, not the time yet to press panic buttons like what's happening now.

I still think Harshal is just hitting his purple patch this year and he's just average (as shown by Jadeja in that manic over). You put him under some pressure and he will crack. Surprising why Pollard didn't go after him. Something seemed off with Pollard today.

The table keeps getting muddled in the middle in a bigger way! RCB is the the only side that can realistically challenge CSK and DC for a spot in the Top 2 now. Feels a bit good that MI is realistically out of the Top 2 race. But fingers crossed, CSK can lock their Top 2 spot.

Exactly. This problem has continued since the day SRH left Yuvraj. They had a golden opportunity to fix the issue this IPL auction, when Karun Nair was going unsold, but they went for the wrong unsold batter (Kedar Jadhav)

When they won, they had Dhawan at the top. Yuvraj- I would say he had lost his impact by then. SRH got off to great starts and had the bowling of Mustafiz, Boult to back them up. They also had some handy all-rounders in Cutting and Henriques who could play cameos then. People also forget they had Morgan in the middle order. The auction that followed thereafter, they really messedup.

For the time he played, Mr 3D Shankar hasn't been shown any dimensionality in his game for the past few seasons

When has he ever shown?

Surprising why Pollard didn't go after him. Something seemed off with Pollard today.
Harshal was actually bowling well yesterday. Pollard wasn't getting enough room to hit his shots and also Harshal was bowling a lot of slower deliveries in that slow surface. I was really surprised to see Kurnal being sent ahead of Hardik and Pollard.

That increasing run rate meant there was pressure to go after everything and that is why Hardik couldn't time the ball properly. And after that everything happened so quickly.

MI doesn't seem to be completely switched on this season. And this is why they are behind most of the sides this season.

I think MI are still the best team in the tournament and by some margin but you can't be "up there" every season of every IPL. People need to understand that this is not football or the EPL and because the IPL is so competitive and closely matched that you will have shocker seasons. It happened to CSK last year. Pretty clear that the middle order misfiring is the cause of Mumbai's headaches.

I think the bigger issue for me is the shocking form of all the India batters. Rahul is in some sort of nick but all the others are in that 110-130 SR band and none of them are fluent. To sight an example-

The stats geeks and so called pundits will say Kohli is in good touch but to me he is not. I think AB will be said to be out of form but I rather batters get out trying all 14 games because someone like him will win RCB 4 games. We need 7 proper batters of the kind.

We are a result oriented lot and not fond of processes. The biggest worry for me is the form of SKY. We need him to be up and firing because him and Pant are absolutely vital to have some sort of rhythm in the middle overs.

The Dan Chritian over (think it was the 16th over) was the one which tilted the balance towards RCB. It went for only 6 and even though Dan was bowling a very leg side line, there didn't seem to be any intent from Pollard or Hardik to slog/hit it out of the park. They both seemed to be happy with simply guiding the ball to the leg side. That looked very odd to me.

The biggest worry for me is the form of SKY.
It seems surprising to me is that SKY had a great debut series against England but was off during the IPL season. Again, he did well in Sri Lanka and now completely off in IPL. The same is the case with Ishan Kishan. Maybe, they had a couple of seasons when they worked hard like anything and now they are slightly tired. This has a lot to do with IPL taking place every 6 months.

Henriques who could play cameos then.
Henriques played better innings than just "cameos". As an avid SRH fan, I find his contribution to the franchise massively underrated. He was a solid number 3 for SRH for quite some time.

Barring the top order none of their batsmen are in form, reason being for seventh place on the table. Not to forget, MI's bowling is still firing which doesn't imply that the team as a whole isn't switched on. It'd look a lot worse for MI if it wasn't for those close margin victories against SRH and KKR in Chennai earlier this year that their bowlers delivered, they just haven't fired collectively. Although, I still think MI still have a decent chance to at least snagging fourth place, the other 3-4 teams aiming for that spot don't look too much better than MI either except KKR. Agree with LiveLoveABD, every team is bound to have an offseason even given the caliber of players in their team and the fact that the IPL is highly competitive among only eight teams. Also explains why SRH are at rock bottom too, they've made the playoffs five seasons in a row but lack of form and calibre in that middle order has put them down there.

Ishan Kishan looked completely broken after that game yesterday, MI need to keep backing him after that 500 run season he gave them last year. The form of the other Indian batsmen doesn't look too good, Kohli is scoring runs but considerably slows down after a certain point in his innings, Pant has done alright but no one has shown significant form going into this WT20, which is concerning.

Just chill. I was talking about the same thing. The batting order doesn't look switched on was the thing I was implying early on. And I've also explained in my previous post, IPL happening every 6 months was always going to affect the teams that we performing consistently. Just looks different when it comes to Delhi.

He started well but slowed down in the middle overs.
