Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Who knows it could be Gill who rejected them?
Venky kaka said Varun and Iyer posses skills that cannot be bought in auction. Unfortunate for Gill to miss out on that reason. So I do not think Gill rejected them.

They are not gonna come out and say hey he rejected us. That looks weak.
Looking weak would have helped them, getting abused and losing fans might not.

The point of discussion concerning Dhoni was which place he should take on the retention list. Dhoni wanted the lowest of the four rungs. The Super Kings, meanwhile, felt placing him as the top player made more sense, as it would swell their purse ahead of the next auction in case he decided to retire after the 2022 season. Eventually, Dhoni took the second spot, with Jadeja, at INR 16 crore, the first retention.

Dhoni wanted less money while the franchise wants to pay him more money! The employer rejects the employee's request for lower pay cheque, and hands him double the requested pay cheque. Just "Dhoni / CSK happenings" :clap:clap:thumbs

Ruturaj accepting his retention at 6 crores is another biggie! He could've easily rejected the offer to be retained at 6 crores and a new team would've offered him 8+ or he might've gone beyond that in auction. Especially when we are reading news about players wanting to get the top most retention amount bracket and rejecting offers to be retained, this is another validation of the CSK brand/loyalty that has played a part in Ruturaj accepting the lowest pay grade. Its good that he doesn't jump from 50L to 10+C. He can continue to play without "price tag pressure" at a time when he's cementing his international career

And CSK have announced that they're going to be putting all effort in buying back the regulars (just like what CSK have done over the years). So expect them to go hard on Shardul, Deepak, Curran, Faf, Hazlewood, etc. Not sure how they'll treat Raina, Rayudu, Uthappa, Tahir (do these guys feature in CSK's future plans - tough to say; I dont see Raina being picked by CSK again if his absence in the IPL 2021 playoffs is any indicator).

KKR not retaining Gill could be on account of either party not coming to a conclusion. What surprises me is SRH-Samad and Malik, really? These 2 could have been bought back in the auction ad wouldn't have gone for big bucks too.

Would be very interesting if Morgan is picked by CSK! Can captain the team and if MSD's batting form continues on its current slope, they get Morgan in, make him captain and play a younger wicketkeeper in Dhoni's place. Will be a very interesting transition period while Ruturaj is prepped for captaincy.

Or go after the local boy Dinesh Karthik, who presents a similar profile too and can also keep. And he has openly expressed his desire to play once for his home franchise. These two will not be long term prospects, but can help CSK in a transition.

I scratched my head around the Umran Malik retention. I understand Samad (lot of big hitting potential and he got a decent chunk of games with SRH).. But 4 crores for Umran Malik? He played only 3 games for SRH in IPL 2021 and wasn't even great shakes in those 3 games with his stats. I understand the excitement around his pace, for a retention and 4 crores? The boy just hit a massive jackpot!

Don't need Morgan, they've got Moeen. He's a very good captain in his own right.

Interesting. Just checked his T20 captaincy stats. Captained his team to the Vitality Blast T20 title in 2018 and ended runners-up in 2019. Guess it makes all the more sense to have retained him over Faf

Interesting transition years lie ahead for CSK. MS has spoken openly about how he admires Rutu's cricketing sense. While, the options of Jaddu, morgan and DK are alwasy there for the grab, I feel MS would personally groom Rutu to take over in the coming years. If Rutu does eventually take over, he would be a prime contender for the Indian role in about 5+ years time- especially since MSD would have vouched for him.

By the way, does anyone have an idea of how Ahmedabad and Lucknow's purses be affected? Do they mandatorily have to pick up 3 players right now? Or can they choose to not to do so and go to the auctions with a higher purse?

They'll probably be able to pick him up cheap in an auction.
Most of the teams will try to retain their balance core but Punjab will be a party poopers for sure like always.

They are sure once again gonna do a lot of teams by overpricing players in the Auctions.
