Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Does MI want to become Indian team + Overseas? Then surely they can try this.
Nah, if they wanna continue their legacy from T20wc(6/7 MI Locals were part of the squad)...

It doesn't matter if you stack up your team with superstars. IPL has repeatedly debunked the theory of "filling up squad of superstars". It can help get you eyeballs and bums on seats, but nothing much on the performance front. Any team that focuses on stacking up superstars, you should be very skeptical about their approach.

What do you guys make of this?

KRR & Delhi speak out against the concept of an auction. Seems to me, they've lost a few analysts from their payroll.:D

I am not very sure that I want to see the mega auction completely eliminated. It is kinda acting like a semi "reset" button that can refresh the league and make it more competitive/interesting. I feel that getting rid of it completely could easily stagnate the league where some teams keep players for eternity and other teams find it impossible to buy good players.

The excuses given by KKR and DC owners sound "lazy excuses". Its like "I want to do the grooming process and I want to do it only once". Who said that they cant make the grooming/scouting process as a constant thing and keep doing it? They groom players, make them stars and if these players really are so important, then the franchise should afford to buy them back in the auction (if they cant retain them).

Wasn't a counter-point to your post. I meant they stacked up their side with stars and year after year they failed to lift the trophy. :)
Sachin, Ponting, Rohit, Harbhajan, Johnson, Malinga, Karthik and Pollard were not stars :yes

I can tell you from my experience as an MI supporter, it was Ricky Ponting who called the shots that year. He Captained a similar side in International Cricket for more than a decade. Not surprised at all if he won MI that title.

Unfortunately Mi Won the title under Rohit Sharma

There was a show telecasted on Star Sports, maybe you might not know because it was in Hindi. Rohit Sharma spoke about how Ponting's presence helped him win the title back in 2013 on that show.

A draft system akin to NBA would be ideal, if hard to fit into a cricket league, but auctions are fun to watch as a viewer, gotta say.
