I am gonna complain because I think I know better.
England play Jonny Bairstow out of positionn. He is better than Steve Smith at 1-4 (probably 5-7), keeps wicket or is a gun fielder.
No one wanted Steve Smith, so I'd suggest that's a good indication of his value. The argument is not about who is the better white ball cricketer or who can hit em further. It's a price vs value comparison.
Steve Smith at 3 vs Jonny Bairstow as an opener? Sign me up for JB even if I am paying JB 7 to Smith's 2/3 as on date.
But, cricket is more than that and this is a mega auction where you will be playing on all sorts of tracks in the coming years and considering who PK have picked with their India contingent (all India batters almost have it in their contract to bat top 2/top 3) then in that situation Smith becomes a better fit for PK.
I still feel JB should open for England and Buttler should finish but what do I know?
Had MI retained Ishan Kishan, would Surya Kumar Yadav have gone for Rs. 15.25 crores?
No one wanted Steve Smith, so I'd suggest that's a good indication of his value.
At this point, honestly, anyone who still thinks Buttler should be a finisher in T20 hasn't been paying attention to Buttler opening in T20s.
Expecting some very involved action from the likes of MI, CSK, SRH tomorrow.... Maybe I should've stayed awake for Day 2 rather than Day 1, which for the most part was all about the hype/big bucks buy. I feel the squads for the respective franchises will crystallize tomorrow. Maybe I should cram in some good sleep in the afternoon today and keep myself up for Day 2.
I am still kinda hopeful that CSK will make better buys tomorrow! They have only 20 crores to play with, but in 2018, they made similarly smart buys on the second day of the auction when other teams exhausted their purses and in the end, CSK ended up with a few crores in their pocket. Still a chance to recover from a nasty Day 1.
200% no. But SKY is a Mr. 360 guy and with MI letting go of Hardik, maybe they thought of SKY to be more useful at multiple spots than Ishan? Who knows? Or did Ishan want to go into auction, pursuing higher money (I know it sounds stupid if this is true, as staying with a franchise like MI confers a lot of growth as a player(
Looks like my support is the IPL jinx. Now that I have left Bangalore and finally can back my favourite team, they have gone ahead and had a disastrous auction. The damage for CSK is done. The heart breaking part is that the damage will remain for years and cannot be transformed in the next 2-3 years. The India core is the heartbeat of a franchise and I don't see anyone in yellow apart from Gaikwad in say three years? Jadeja is a legend and very fast but also fragile.
