Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Does anyone else feel that Indian cricket has depth but not the depth of a 10 team format IPL? You could ruin a lot of careers by dishing out this much cash to players who might not give a toss about cricket in a season or two. Irfan Pathan is a fine example.

You live and you learn and I feel it might not be a bad idea to tweak it a little bit next year and make it 6 Indians and 5 foreigners.

I agree too.. Definitely not the depth yet for a 10-team IPL. I feel the addition of these two new teams is likely to create imbalanced teams and could lead to a spike in boring games. The format of "8 teams with them playing home and away" was working fine and could have gone on a few more years, especially atleast until we as a world fully got out of this damn pandemic!

I have a feeling CSK will pick up Hales/Billings for base price.

Wouldn't mind Hales, but Billings? Meh.... I don't know. Seeing how CSK went for both QDK and Warner, they seem to be having a left handed opening batsman in mind. Could that mean they go for Evin Lewis? Maybe... I wish they go after Markram, who has a slightly more added utility of his bowling and his spectacular fielding. One that could give us the value that Faf gave (with his fielding). They need to fill the Faf sized hole, since they've shown clear intent of recreating the side that won them the title.

They clearly need a backup for Bravo and an Indian bowler in Thakur's place who can bowl at the death. Maybe Chetan Sakariya, who even expressed interest to play under Dhoni? Or if they want the experience and age, Jaydev Unadkat? I know Unadkat was pretty bad for Rajasthan post that breakout season for RPSG in 2017, but his breakout season was when Dhoni-Fleming were with RPSG.

Lots of maneuvering and cheap buys to make. That's why I dont feel its over yet for Chennai (or any other team that didn't have a great Day 1). Was listening to Harsha on Cricbuzz and he said "Day 1 was a player's day, and Day 2 is going to be a franchise owner's day as the actual squad crystallizes on Day 2". Very much like a test match where the main action happens in the end.

You could honestly make a decemt squad just of players still available
  1. :saf: :bat: David Miller (:os: 1l
  2. :ban: :ar: Shakib Al Hasan (:os: 2)
  3. :ind: :bwl: Umesh Yadav
  4. :ind: :bwl: Amit Mishra
  5. :ind: :bat: Rajat Patidar
  6. :ind: :wk: Vishnu Vinod
  7. :ind: :wkb: N. Jagadeeshan
  8. :nep: :bwl: Sandeep Lamichhane (:os: 3)
  9. :aus: :bat: Marnus Labuschagne (:os: 4)
  10. :ind: :bat: Ajinkya Rahane
  11. :ind: :ar: Shivam Dube
  12. :eng: :ar: Liam Livingstone (:os: 5)
  13. :ind: :ar: Vijay Shankar
  14. :wi: :ar: Odean Smith (:os: 6)
  15. :ind: :bwl: Navdeep Saini
  16. :ind: :bwl: Chetan Sakariya
  17. :ind: :bwl: Sandeep Sharma
  18. :ind: :bat: Rinku Singh
  19. :ind: :ar: Raj Bawa
  20. :eng: :bat: Alex Hales (:os: 7)
  21. :ind: :bwl: Siddharth Kaul
  22. :sin: :bat: Tim David (:os: 8)
  23. :ind: :wk: Aditya Tare
  24. :ind: :bat: Gurkeerat Singh
  25. :ind: :bwl: Akshay Karnewar
Like it would lack star power, but Hales, Rahane :c:, Labuschagne, Miller, Livingstone, Bawa, Dube, Vinod :wk:, Kaul, Yadav, Mishra wouldn't be the worst XI

Which is why I believe we should have gone with 5 overseas players in the starting XI. You still have 4 extra Indian players actively playing per round in comparison to an 8 team IPL and it doesn't dilute the competition too much.

I actually think it'll be a good opportunity for players who have perhaps been sat waiting for an injury or a drop in form to get their chance, not to mention younger players coming through.

You have five overseas players it might raise the overall standard but you're blocking opportunities for Indian players. It looks like most teams might have one or two places where they might not be able to fill it with an established player. One of the things about the early IPL was that you got a lot of breakthrough stars, might just be a season and then bust but that's more exciting than the same old faces. I'm excited to see how all the fresh XIs, and Chennai, will line up.

Any Guess on Overlay this year

Could've been a great idea to have a seperate thread for auctions and the IPL season to follow.
