Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Honourable HM is in the stadium. That should seal the deal for GT :p

And hotstar has stopped streaming for over 5 mins now :mad

Gujarat Titans has won their 1st title. Meanwhile RCB fans have started dreaming for next year trophy :laughter::laughter:

Did Rajasthan make the blunder of following the outdated tradition of "bat first in a final"? I've seen a lot of commentators (more so overseas guys) mention about the tradition of wanting to bat first in a final match as the pressure of chasing in a final is always enormous. But this tradition keeps falling to the wayside over and over again in this modern generation. Play according to conditions than on tradition. Last game, Rajasthan did the right thing and they won the game easily. On fresher pitches, its always far easier chasing in today's times.

Hope Sanju learns from it! Rajasthan have still done really well in this season

GT fully deserve winning the trophy. Enjoyed their season with all those coming-in-clutch moments and winning from nowhere. Hardik was impressive in all three facets and as captain, huge for the Indian team going forward.

As for RR, they've finally realized the benefit of making "under the radar" picks in their auction strategy after all those years of horrendous auctions. Fantastic auction picks and Buttler took them to the final this year. The way they revamped their bowling attack was impressive. But that decision to bat first was shocking. If you've just chased successfully with ease just two days ago at the same ground, how does that change now? Gujarat's strength was always their chasing too, even though they've defended well too. Nevertheless, excellent season for RR after those mediocre performaces in the last couple of seasons.

I'm now hoping for a biopic on Hardik Pandya.

I am cautiously optimistic about Hardik's captaincy credentials. I am hoping he can continue this good work with the ball in the upcoming internationals and get back his place in the Indian side. If all goes well for him in his personal game with the national side, he can be a serious captaincy candidate for India. I have really liked his demeanor in this entire season and this title success will only establish for him that this formula is a keeper. Even in big wins, he remains calm and composed (he didn't react at all to today's title win and just shook hands and had some soft hugs).

He handled the bowling brilliantly today and his moves were top notch. I couldn't watch too many of GT's games but in the periods that I've watched, Hardik has been on point. Fingers crossed...

I think decision making at crunch moments is one of the most important things when it comes to winning tournaments.

On paper, it always looked like RR were a better side and they probably had a better balance as compared to GT. It seems even more ridiculous that how something like toss become such a crucial part of this Final and RR just messed it up over there. Also the last time in Qualifier-1 it was GT who won the match chasing so all these factors had to be taken into consideration. I also feel the same that Samson just fell for that bat first in the Finals approach.

On to GT, it's inspiring to see them rise through the ranks and deliver the kind of performance they have. Everyone just wrote them off and claimed that they didn't had the team and eventually they made it to the Finals before anyone else and won it comprehensively too! I wonder what kind of impact Jason Roy would've created had he not missed out.

I just feel that this side just needs a few tweaks and they would look like a well-oiled machine even in next season.
