Indian Premier League - General Discussion

Tough luck, but we had to lose at home because with Impact Player and with opposition teams knowing these conditions a lot better, cant always defend successfully at the fortress. It was a miracle that we came up 3 runs short. Ashwin, Chahal and Zampa put the chokehold pretty damn well in the middle overs. That this game was 1 hit away from win for CSK, was totally due to Jadeja and Dhoni's magic in those last 2 overs.

The selection keeps baffling me, but then the bowlers who are chosen to pick wickets although they give away lot of runs, and make it harder and harder. Wonder what wrong Rajvardhan has done to be dropped for two games in a row? Still a mystery about Simarjeet Singh who appears in the squad on TV but never seems to get a game.

The talk about 'script' keeps happening for ages and yet IPL has never stopped growing to be the second richest franchise league and the watching numbers keeps growing season after season after season after season after seasoonnnnnnnnnnnnn, ain't it? :rolleyes

That is what I was thinking too. I was confused why these bizarre series of events even took place :)
Just a follow up. I heard on a podcast that, within the laws, because Harshal missed the stumps (trying the Mankad), there was no appeal for it. Therefore it was a dead ball. So the appeal for the subsequent 'run out' was irrelevant.

I just hope that Rajvardhan is injured or is nursing some niggle. I mean, it makes absolutely no sense to bench him after two games where he actually bowled very well and especially got praise from Dhoni for bowling an excellent 19th over in that win vs Lucknow. Dhoni and Rajvardhan also attended a pre-match event somewhere in Chennai few days back (saw on CSK twitter) and Dhoni was joking around / being playful with Raj. Wish to see Raj back and more so want to see his batting abilities.

I don't think he is injured, I have seen on Cricinfo he has been one of the players who can be selected as impact player for the last two matches.

Something that Dhoni said after the second game was that if the bowlers continued bowling no-balls after that they would have to find a new captain willing to play them. Did Hangargekar piss him off in that regard in the nets subsequently? It's the only reason why I can think of Akash Singh (who replaced Choudhary) playing ahead of him. Simarjeet not playing is weird too unless he's not fully fit.

I'm liking this version of Rahane that isn't afraid to be positive, it felt like he was too timid in the past.

Question to be asked: Is Pant going to have much impact on the game when he is back? He isn't an enigmatic leader like MSD nor is he a run scorer like Kohli. Pant captaincy poses a lot many questions tbh!

I know Delhi is paying him his dues this year, but ultimately they got a business to run. Might not do it if this continues. Please releasing Pant opens up around INR 10CR for them in the auctions.

There's no way Delhi are releasing Pant when he is an adopted local and cash cow to market around for years. Pant's also scored more runs than Kohli from 2018-22 (when he was last active) in a role and position less conducive to hoarding runs so yeah he's not a run-scorer like Kohli, he's better than that. His captaincy has also not been as bad as you claim, he's had good and bad moments.

Them releasing Pant will give them 10 crores to spend on... who? You're not going to find a replacement player in domestic cricket for his role or ability unless you hit the jackpot with another U19 starlet or luck out on people sleeping on a player like Patidar or Rinku. Besides their squad is adequately balanced already, all they need is better performances from players who aren't playing to their full potential (and drop Pandey please, the guy is a proven failure). Considering his marketability and the negative PR you'd get for releasing a player when he's out due to a serious accident it makes zero business sense for the Jindals to release him.

Akash is a left armer, could be as simple as they want variety in the attack.

He’s also someone who’s gone from a Rajasthan side to a Plate team in Nagaland. I’m really not sure if the left arm angle is worth having over an U19 star who was impressive in your first two games.

Nagaland have a several better players than some of the other Plate sides (iirc) over recent years. Could also just be opportunity, Rajasthan has a fairly established attack.

I’m wondering if that’s why they picked him up (other than the Rajasthan connection via Chahar). A 20 year old moving to a far worse side to play cricket instead of trying to force down in a stronger side is a sign of ambition and desire. CSK’s usually been looking for the mental side of things in their players.
