haha nah maybe I just thought he was a left armer. Mithun has made a test debut right?

Yep, vs Sri Lanka and has been unfairly discarded after that. I don't see much in Unadkat to be honest. He hasn't got much pace nor does he move the ball a whole lot. It's not like he has a domestic record that simply cannot be ignored either. Don't know what they see in him but hopefully it won't take them long to find out that there's not much there.

Unadkat seems to have the backing of Wasim Akram, who has seen good things in him. If Zaheer doesnt play, I guess Unadkat will play in his place seeing that left armer replaces left armer. But it will be crap to see Zaheer not play when we need him most.

They suck.

Haha. I blame the BCCI. We've got so much talent in India, yet when somebody shows promise (Ishant after Australia tour, Sreesanth after last SA tour) they then proceed to burn them out quicker than you would think was possible.

I blame a few things, mostly the pitches and ...........Sachin Tendulkar.

Every Indian I have ever met here in club cricket is only obsessed with batting. They never want to field or bowl, when their batting is finished, they make excuses and go home.

All this Sachin love over the last 2 decades has basically ruining fast bowling. No kids want to bowl, they all want to be Sachin.

It's sort of always been that way, starting with Gavaskar (if there was no Gavaskar there wouldn't have been a Sachin). Part of the reason why we only produce world class batsmen but no bowlers of that level.

I think Pakistan balanced some of that out though, with world class fast bowlers instead..or used to at least.

thanks to Kapil we at least have guys like Zaheer and Srinath from a few years ago or else we'd still be opening with part time medium pacers like Gavaskar used to.

Yea that would make sense, the last few generations of Pakistanis have grown up around Sarfraz Nawaz, Imran Khan, Wasim and Waqar and very few talented or awe inspiring batsmen (Miandad and Anwar come to mind)

Sort of makes sense that the youth would be more drawn to fast bowling in Paksitan.

and I guess that throws the "flat pitches leading to bad fast bowlers" theory out the window, since Pakistan is supposedly one of the flattest tracks in the world.

Only off late, like post 2000s. Before that they were traditionally known for green tops.

Pakistan cricket in general has gone down the crapper post 2000....

I don't know what the big deal is with the extra pace - if you're real quick but spraying it all over the place, it gets you nowhere. Remember Brett Lee when he first started or Mitch Johnson as he is now. I think lots of pace but lack of direction is not threatening enough in Tests. That's probably part of the reason why Tait has success in limited overs international cricket but not in tests.

Talking about Waqar and Wasim - yes Waqar tended to spray it around but he also had killer swing. From my earliest memories of Wasim, I don't remember him missing his lengths or line too much.

I kind of agree with the Indian approach to pace bowling - with or without genuine pace, your best chance of taking test wickets is accuracy and bowling consistently in good areas. If you can swing or seam it, even better.

What I meant was that it is always handy to have a real quick bowler in your attack. Sometimes raw speed can do what line and length can't. Swing and seam have to there to assist any bowler, fast or medium. India already have swingers like Zaheer and seamers like ishant. What their attack lacks is aggression and pace. Its all about balancing the attack IMO.
And Indian approach to pace bowling has resulted in them not producing a single fast bowler that can make it in the top 10 fast bowlers of all time.

after last tour's horse riding....... SREESHANT's GONNA DO DISCO THIS TIME:lol

WHERE ARE THOSE WHO ARGUED THAT GETTING BACK HIS RHYTHM IN A POINTLESS ODI SERIES VS NEWZEALAND WERE MORE IMPORTANT????:mad:mad:facepalm:facepalm

This thing always happens with this guy. The guy doesnt know about his own body. When everyone was advicing him on twitter as to why he is risking himself in those 2 ODI games, he said it was best for him and his rhythm. Now if he doesnt play the first test, he is going to receive a huge barrage of criticism from his twitter followers and everyone concerned about Indian cricket. Absolutely poor stuff!! Just when we need him so crucially, he might let us down as usual (whats with him getting injured after going on an overseas tour?)

He seems to have a problem, he is getting injured too much and on crucial times. If he don't play then we are half gone and there is no wothy replacement for him. I don't think either Yadav or Unadkat going to do the work for us.

Agreed. But I don't think any of the world's greatest bowlers got there because they were just fast. They had those other tools, and they were certainly not wayward.

What I meant was, the Indian approach to pace bowling seems to be the lesser of the evils. I think we have accepted the fact that we are (for whatever reasons) incapable of producing bowlers of genuine pace, and came up with the best possible solution.

Isn't it good thing that he's injured before the test and not during the tests? It's better than breaking down in a test match. Remember how on our last tour Munaf Patel was carrying an injury all along and how it cost us?
