India In Deep Trouble!

With the steady partnership in progress between Dhoni and Karthik, SouthAfrican captain was badly looking for the breakthrough. He shuffled the bowling well between kemp, Kallis, Nel and Botha, but both the batsmen progressed in cautious way. This added lot of frustrations to Smith.

Karthik, The Lonely Warrior.

It was looking very obvious from the defensive approach of Dhoni that, the main intension was to keep Karthik on strike and Dhoni to play the supportive role. Both these batsmen executed the plan well.

Karthik played some magnificent shots and remained unaffected by SA bowlers. Karthik's confident shot selection made the ball to go in all directions towards the boundary ropes. Though Dhoni was trying to root himself firmly to the crease in one end, Karthik kept on accelerating the scorecard in another end. i.e, The scoring rate of Karthik was quick. This added more and more frustrations to the home team.

Meanwhile, Karthik brought his fifty and recieved warm applauses from all the fans. It was the brilliant entertainment provided by this young promising chap. He recieved applauses even from the Indian dressing room though faces there looked quite disappointed with team's performance in batting.

Dhoni's Luck.

With the things seemed to settling down, Dhoni also decided to take chances against the bowlers for some quick runs. In one of the deliveries of Nel, he played an aggressive offside shot that made the ball to move in air towards the fielder, Villiers. He made an brilliant attempt to get hold of that catch but the ball managed to go past the fielder. Smith got excited for a second but soon it went in vain after seeing the ball going towards the boundary. Bowler and Keeper were disappointed too. It was an excellent catch attempt though by Villiers.

With few similar risks, Dhoni got some handy runs which kept the team scorecard moving. This also added some entertainment to Indian fans. But it did not last long.. Nel brought the breakthrough in getting rid of Dhoni.

Once again, A Poor Umpire Decision???

In one of the deliveries of Nel to Dhoni, the ball was pitched in line and it was moving towards the leg stumps. Batsman tried to put it away in leg side but missed it and ball struck the pads... Immediately, there was a huge shout from the bowler, keeper and from some fielders. Umpire, after some seconds, raised his finger giving the decision once again in favour of the bowler.

Nel was excited and the entire SA team started their celebrations with great happiness as it was a major breakthrough, which they were looking for a long time. Dhoni walked back towards the pavilion and Irfan Pathan replaced him. The replay showed that ball might have missed the leg stumps. It seems that Indian team is bit unlucky when comes to Umpire's decisions. Its to be noted that Ganguly was already the victim of bad decision. :

Pathan Dismissed by Botha.

The last hopes were on this pair as Pathan is capable of contributing with bat too. But those hopes were shattered when Pathan played some silly shot to get himself out.

Botha was the bowler and the delivery was well outside the off-stump for Pathan.. But the batsman went in search of it for a huge drive and it resulted in mistimed shot. Ball got an thick inside edge and it striked the base of stumps directly taking the bails off. The celebrations of SA team continued. Pathan was disappointed with himself to throw away the wicket. He made his way towards the pavilion and Anil Kumble walked in as the new batsman.

Well, Karthik is the only recognised batsman at the crease. India needs lot from this pair especially from Kumble to support Karthik. Its to be noted that Kumble have already been in this type of situation some years back in same SouthAfrican conditions. That time, he played a crucial role with Azharuddin to avoid follow-on. He has to repeat the same with Karthik now to avoid the follow-on. Meanwhile, Smith would be pleased with everything that has gone till now and would be definitely looking to enforce follow-on. Oh dear, India won't be able to avoid the follow on I think. Good innings and most important innings from Karthik, really poor shot from Pathan to get himself out. He shouldn't be playing such shots with India in so much trouble.
