India Vs SouthAfrica

Third Test,Live From Newlands, Cape Town.
Day 3, 12:01 PM

Great Contest ON between both the Teams!
( Day 3 begins, Dravid & Laxman still firmly rooted )

day3startwk5.jpg

Hello and a warm welcome once again for the Day3 of this final test match between India and SouthAfrica at CapeTown. Well, Dravid and Laxman arrived following the SA players and the umpires. Smith was working busily with his fielders. Botha was given the ball to start the Day3's play. After everything was set ready, the play resumed. There is still huge pressure on both these batsmen eventhough they seemed to be well settled.

Some Problems for the Batsmen.

sometroublesmo5.jpg

Botha was allowed to bowl just the first over of Day3. Then Smith started shuffling Nel, Pollock, Ntini and Kallis. The fast bowlers tried to utilize the early morning conditions. Bowlers were getting assistance too with some extra bounce and some movement of the ball.

Laxman and Dravid had fortune in favour of them on many occasions. They almost got edges in some fantastic deliveries. Among the bowlers, Kallis in particular, troubled the most with his suprise movement of the ball. In one of the deliveries of Kallis, Dravid got an thick edge but didn't carry to the slip fielder. Smith as well as Kallis were frustrated the most.

Added to Kallis's swinging deliveries, Nel's extra bounce & Pollock's strict line too troubled the batsmen. It was when the things were not looking good for India, both the batsmen started to play some good shots and tried to pick the gaps to accelerate the team scorecard.

Atlast, Batsmen started to Settle-in Well!

dravidlaxmanhj5.jpg

Indian skipper brought his fifty with a style by a boundary. That shot was magnificently played which initiated the confidence for batsman. Dravid recieved warm applauses from everyone. What an innings this has been under pressure.. Well played the Skip! :clap This partnership has increased the frustrations of SouthAfrican skipper further. The home team badly need quick wickets to stay safe in this game.

Soon after, Laxman also started to move his feet well like the previous day. He took some risk though but was able to pick the gaps well. Both the batsmen played some lovely leg-glances which added further entertainment to the crowd. Bowlers stood almost clueless and were looking for wickets with great hunger.

The fielding remained top inspite of the frustrations from bowlers. They tried their level best to save runs for the team. In one of the occasions, Laxman played a lovely cut that was about to bisect the fielders standing there.. but one of the fielders made a terrific dive and managed to have a hand on the ball while other fielder followed it carefully and picked it up clean. Thus this terrific effort saved the boundary definitely. All the fielders were continuously encouraged by either Skipper or Boucher or Ntini. Laxman and Dravid, after starting to settle in well, rotated strikes whenever possible and defended the good deliveries.

Big Shout for Handling The Ball! :p

handlingtheballzh1.jpg

Kallis was bowling to Dravid. In one of the deliveries, Dravid tried to defend a straight one... The ball failed to make contact with the bat. And it went towards the glove and almost landed for few micro-seconds on the palm of Dravid. For a moment, it looked like Dravid handling the ball in his hands though it quickly fell down. Kallis raised a half-minded appeal but soon the loud shout came from Keeper and near by fielders.

Umpire laughed at the bowler and strongly nodded his head saying a big " NO!!! ". Dravid did not understand anything for a moment but he realised when one of the nearby fielders exchanged words with him. Probably that fielder must have asked Dravid to get out to pavilion without waiting for the umpire's decision. :D Dravid responded only with a minor stare and then things got alright. The replay showed ball staying in hands of Dravid for just around a second.. Dravid's didn't do anything wrong except for trying to defend the ball with his bat and it probably might be the reason for umpire's denial too.

Anyways, this spreaded some excitements among everyone though. ;) Play resumed in normal manner after that incident with Laxman and Dravid still looking strong at the crease.

Can this pair do it for India???

partnershiptq7.jpg

Well, with just an hour left for the lunch break, the session belonged to India till now though there was an equal contest between both bat and the ball. Bowlers gained upper hand during first few minutes of the session because of the movement they were getting.. but soon after, Laxman and Dravid were once again back to their excellent form like yesterday and taking India to a good position. Definitely everyone in the Indian dressing room would be pleased with this second innings but still lot of works left though. Meanwhile, South Africa badly need a wicket and would be looking for initiating the collapse as soon as possible to stay safe in this series. So, the contest is still growing stronger. Stay Tuned to see what happens in next hour before lunch. :)

India : 162/1( 45 Overs,2nd Innings )
VVS Laxman : 71*(127)
R.Dravid : 63*(123)

KKD Karthik : 13(20) Dismissed by Pollock.

SA : 395/10( 1st Innings )

India : 156/10 ( 1st Innings )

India Trail By 77 Runs.

Superb batting by these 2, and amazing work from yourself

Love the way you add the unsual things like handling the ball.

KUTGW :thumbs

Some good battling by the Indian batsman but they won't be able to get a big enough lead to trouble South Africa...

good rescue work there by India. I think, sound innings from both Dravid and Laxman followed by some aggressive cricket from middle order batsmen should do the trick for India... a bit of pressure might help SA to choke :p

Great presentation as always.. just love the way.. how easily I can know whole of the story without reading even a single word !! The way you describe/present pics is simply outstanding !

GREAT WORK. reps to you(whenever possible).. :)

Day 3, Lunch Break.

SA Grab Two Big Wickets!
( Laxman/Ganguly dismissed, Dravid still firmly rooted )

Well, with just around an hour left for lunch break, Smith's bowling changes continued. He operated with Nel and Ntini from both the ends this time. The field set was also changed from attacking mode to bit defensive mode. Both the batsmen's intensions were just to rotate the strikes and keep the scorecard moving. Very soon after, Laxman was dismissed softly in the over of Nel.

Laxman,The first Victim of Nel.

laxmanoutbt9.jpg

In one of deliveries of Nel, Laxman attempted his favourite classic cover drive but he didn't get the timing right. As a result, the ball stayed in air for some time without any great distance. Ntini, who was the fielder nearby, came running front towards the ball and made a terrific dive in front & managed to get hold of the ball.

Ntini was excited to get that catch getting rid of well settled/dangerous Laxman. Batsman was frustrated though. Laxman stared at his partner and his bat and then walked towards the pavilion. The celebrations for SA team continued. Smith was bit relieved as he was looking for this wicket for very very long time. Laxman recieved warm applauses from everyone while returning to dressing room. The fantastic innings by VVS Laxman thus coming to an end by a fantastic catch. :clap Well done Laxman!

Laxman's Dismissal : Was the Catch Cleanly Taken???

replaylaxmanoutik0.jpg

The replay of Laxman's dismissal showed something interesting. While Ntini was taking that catch, his left palm ( which was holding the ball ) was pointing downwards & the ball seemed to have touched the ground.

However, the umpire didn't ask for any third umpire's decision to know whether that catch has been taken cleanly. If referred, the decision might have been in favour of batsman. Its very Unfortunate for Laxman to be dismissed in this manner. It might cost huge for Indians as well because this pair was looking very dangerous & was providing a strong resistance to the home team.

Sourav Ganguly walked in as new batsman. Some Indian fans( who were watching through TV in home ) should have got more disappointed to see Laxman getting out in unlucky way. Ganguly started his innings very carefully with a soild defensive stroke in the first ball. It was when Dravid and Ganguly seemed to take their team to lunch break, Sourav was dismissed in Ntini's over.

Prince of kolkata Dismissed by Ntini.

gangulyoutct6.jpg

Ntini was bowling to Ganguly. He offered a very slight width around the offstump.. And Ganguly attempted his favourite cover drive but got an unfortunate edge. The ball was going above the slip fielder, Dippenaar but he made an amazing jump upwards and managed to get hold of that ball with one hand. It was a fantastic single handed catch to dismiss Ganguly.

The celebration for SA continued again. Smith was bit more relieved as his team succeeded in getting another quick breakthrough. Ganguly walked back to dressing room with lot of frustrations. There was stunning silence all of a sudden from Indian spectators due to those two quick wickets. Sachin Tendulkar arrived as a new batsman joining his skipper.

Some Runs in Last One Hour.

runsforindiatc6.jpg

Earlier, Dravid played some fantastic shots that helped Indian a bit to accelerate the scorecard. He played some lovely leg glances, his classic offside drive and so on and they looked fantastic to watch and also provided some entertainment to the spectators inspite of the disappointments in loosing wickets.

At the same time, there was brilliant fielding display from SouthAfrica. The fielders did not leave anything for granted. They ran behind the ball and chased it till last second.. and also, saved some runs. Overall, the fielding display was top class by SouthAfrica. In other end, Sachin Tendulkar got off the mark in his very first ball with a lovely typical Tendulkar leg-glance. Smith brought an extra fielder in leg side after that. Soon after, umpire removed the bails off and asked the players to leave for lunch break. Players left for lunch.

What & How can these two do for India???

dravidtendulkarzz7.jpg

Well, the last one hour belonged to SouthAfrica as they were able to get those two crucial wickets of Laxman and Ganguly. Getting rid of Laxman in very unfortunate way might be a turning point as well in this match. However, Dravid is still firmly rooted to the crease playing his skipper role perfectly. With two best batsmen playing at the crease, India really needs something huge from them now. Meanwhile, Smith would be looking to get some more quick wickets in next session to initiate the collapse as soon as possible. Overall, the contest is further growing great.. Stay Tuned to see how it turns out in next session! :)

India : 200/3( 59 Overs,2nd Innings )

VVS Laxman : 71(130) Dismissed by Nel.
KKD Karthik : 13(20) Dismissed by Pollock.

Lunch Break.

That was clever work using the Zoom Suren bhai. Very creative. But in my opinion the catch was cleanly taken. Great works. The South African fielding has been superb. Great works. Reps for you for your hard work ;)

Like you said two big wickets. Some good catches and seemed to me a shadow under the ball so must be a clean catch! SA firmly in the driving seat...

Good fightback from India after an awful 1st innings. Despite that, I would say Tendulkar and Dravid need to build a big partnership here and help get India to at least at 200-220 lead. Dravid is playing a real captain's innings here, he needs to go on and get a double hundred.

Excellent presentation Suren!

Still amazing work Suren. This is the best story ever written on these forums.

Sachin and Dravid are two top quality batsmen and should be able to get nice big scores, Dravid especially now he is set. I still love the way you make it more realistic by zooming in on catches. I would rep you but I still am banned form giving reps, because i neg repped an admin

:happy Thank you everyone for the wonderful comments and views :happy

Updates coming this weekend. :) ( Sorry, i have less time in weekdays due to office works.. if i find time, i will try to update before that. Thank you for the patience )
