India's Tour of South Africa Dec 21 - Jan 22

I think we have to accept that India are now on the path to the 1990s dominance of the period of Azharuddin and Tendulkar. :D

Ashwin in the Limited overs is such a huge backward step.

Goes to back my post the other day can someone name a good spinner in the domestic setup who can picked besides Kuldeep?

To be fair, decent effort by Thakur and Ashwin considering the quick fall of wickets in the middle. Blame the batsmen for the middle order collapse. At least 15-20 short here I think.

I think this is a good total considering it's a tricky surface and the same one that was used for the 1st ODI. So there's enough wear and tear in the surface. 288 is definitely going to challenge South Africa. India needs wickets at regular intervals.

Tbh I don't think Ashwin is a bad choice for T20Is considering his economy is just a little over 6.

But I don't think he is an ODI bowler. He averages somewhere around 34 with the ball with economy of close to 5 and a half.

Let us try finding better options than Ashwin:-

These are the List-A records
1) Mayank Markhande- 79 wickets @22.88, Economy- 4.57
2) Rahul Chahar- 67 wickets @25.86, Economy- 5.12
3) Shreyas Gopal- 77 wickets @23.38, Economy- 5.22
4) Axar Patel- 169 wicket @29.10, Economy- 4.27
5) Dharmendrasingh Jadeja (no he isn't related to Ravindra Jadeja :p)- 80 wickets @28.17, Economy- 4.66

These are atleast 5 option to replace Ashwin. Maybe if Chakravarthy works on his bowling in a way that he can restrict the scoring and also picks regular wickets he also adds to the list.

Poor Ashwin. Once again Pant’s keeping has been found wanting.

Washi was the highest wicket-taker among spinners in the most recent Vijay Hazare Trophy. Hasn't got the best of overall records but worth a shot if he can bat adequately as the future number seven.

Oh and Ravi Bishnoi feels like the future but his bowling defo needs some work in 50 overs cricket. Was the most expensive regular frontline bowler for Rajasthan in the VHT and is only the third best for wickets in the same side. Wonder if it has to do with him not playing on spin friendly surfaces (might have to delve into this later).

It's quite funny that we have U19 blokes cranking out 140+ kph deliveries and we gotta deal with Bhuvi's sub-130 servings alongside Thakur's very own mild 130s. He hasn't exactly been terribly out of form but the clock is ticking.

I remembered Sundar the other day when I was trying to think of someone who might be a good 6 or 7 in the test side.

Series giving me vibes of 2013.
