Good bounce in the pitch and the fall of the fourth wicket shortly before lunch validated a decision to bowl first. Most of the key deliveries have been balls that climbed off the pitch and surprised the batsman, though there was a very good shout for lbw too. Though he was first out, Mukund got a pretty good ball to be dismissed off. Vijay managed to look a lot worse by hanging around. He inside edged a lot of balls and was tentative even against the half volley. He was a little lucky in the lbw, but a lot lucky to not get caught at point by Bishoo. Still, the only batsman to even score a boundary so far is Laxman and I wouldn't rule a century out. These are his kind of conditions.
India would have been thankful for going with the third seamer if they had been bowling, but the question is going to be whether they've got the right seamers. Rampaul isn't as quick as Edwards, but he gets more height and that's been somewhat relevant to all his wickets. While it's a good pitch for Ishant Sharma, Kumar and Mithun are neither as tall nor as quick, so they may not find the same life in the surface. Munaf Patel might have been a better selection.
