India's tour of West Indies June 2011

What is this!? You've got to be tweaking kidding me.

Well, in all seriousness, I was really looking forward to see Mukund play. I just hope he gets something going in the second innings now and is given regular chances. He's a great talent!

Typical Indian collapse. I rest assured that we'll scrap our way to 200 and bowl West Indies for less than that. Even if India get all out for 100, I'll consider them favourites to win this.

Mukund

Well, in all seriousness, I was really looking forward to see Mukund play. I just hope he gets something going in the second innings now and is given regular chances. He's a great talent!

Mukund's failed in three consecutive innings. Time he shows something, at least against the one of the lowest ranked teams.

Although, WI have a decent bowling attack. India is in trouble but will win if they reach 200 because WI batting has not shown much.

Good bounce in the pitch and the fall of the fourth wicket shortly before lunch validated a decision to bowl first. Most of the key deliveries have been balls that climbed off the pitch and surprised the batsman, though there was a very good shout for lbw too. Though he was first out, Mukund got a pretty good ball to be dismissed off. Vijay managed to look a lot worse by hanging around. He inside edged a lot of balls and was tentative even against the half volley. He was a little lucky in the lbw, but a lot lucky to not get caught at point by Bishoo. Still, the only batsman to even score a boundary so far is Laxman and I wouldn't rule a century out. These are his kind of conditions.

India would have been thankful for going with the third seamer if they had been bowling, but the question is going to be whether they've got the right seamers. Rampaul isn't as quick as Edwards, but he gets more height and that's been somewhat relevant to all his wickets. While it's a good pitch for Ishant Sharma, Kumar and Mithun are neither as tall nor as quick, so they may not find the same life in the surface. Munaf Patel might have been a better selection.

Munaf is still injured, so he is not playing. We have to do with what we have.

Ah, the champion is back to hunt! VVS Laxman chooses again the right game to display his champion game. By now, the world knows never to underestimate this guy yet he continues to be done so. This series could be a defining one for Raina. 31* right now. His success has been the most unexpected one on pitches that have been highly bowler friendly so far in both tests. His place will be cemented and finished building pretty soon if he plays innings like these.

I wouldn't consider that 25 in the second innings of Sabina Park a failure. He stitched an important 56 run partnership with Dravid. It was a tough wicket throughout the match for the batsmen (Vijay's dismissal in the 2nd innings created even more demons in the mind). He needs to be given time. I would say play both these openers throughout this series and then judge them.

Spot on there. I'm totally with you on this one. :thumbs

Agree or disagree but Laxman likes to perform well when team needs him more than anyone and they are in deep trouble. He is one of greatest batsman ever in world cricket who performs well in these situations.

With this half century Raina has earned him a permanent role in test for next series.

I see Parthiv opening with Vijay next test and Badri replacing Kohli

This what happens if you don't take udrs and one wicket changes the innings again.

Raina was clearly not out that was the most stupidish decision ever taken. Raina looked solid as Dravid did last match. Praveen and Mithun should bat a bit sensibly and again I see this match ending in 4 days.

Why do you guys want to go for another non-specialist opener? Why are you so hasty to replacing people? Gambhir and Sehwag would not have been this big if they had not been given their chances early on. Mukund is playing just his second test, and Vijay has been stop gap till now. I agree Vijay should be put on notice, but Mukund seriously needs to be persisted with. Thats what they did with Badri - dropped him after just 2 tests against SA (in which he got a 50 in one innings too). Parthiv is not a test opener by any stretch of imagination. We already have a specialist makeshift opener in Virender Sehwag. We need to build specialist openers so that in future Sehwag can come down the order.

If India had sent their best team on this tour and things were perfect in the Windies set-up and they also were picking their best teams.

The battle that we have seen in the first two test on these bouncy Jamaican & Barbados pitches intially with the Tendulkar & co vs a potential 4 prong windies attack of Taylor/Roach/Edwards/Rampaul would have been wonderful test cricket.

But otherwise Indians reserve batsmen are being well exposed on this tour, England much more disciplined attack will be looking on @ proceeding here and licking their lips i would say.
