MATCH REPORT
Darren Berry won the toss and elected to bowl first. It was a great decision, with Inness trapping Greg Blewett in front of the stumps for only 8 runs. Davison and Flower both started quite slow, but once they got going, they put on a 33 run partnership before Davison was beaten by the seam bowling of Inness, and South Australia looked as though they were in for a big score. 25 runs were added to score from the partnerships between Flower and Lehmann before Flower was run out from a close run out, which sparked a mini-collapse. Lehmann was next out, run out going for a second run for 18 runs, and next ball Johnson was out caught behind of the bowling of Warne. Higgs and Ferguson put on a 18 run partnerships before Warne struck again. South Australia lost their last 5 wickets for only 20 runs. Their bottom 5 batsmen contributed 9 runs to the score. South Australia finished on 123 runs. The hi-lights were: M.Higgs 30 (46), J.Davison 27 (37), and Wanre 3/22 (10 Overs).
Victoria needed 124 runs on a pitch with a fair bit of seam movement. Elliot found it too much again, losing his wicket in the first over, contributing not a single run. But Harvey and Moss picked up the pieces and put on 31 runs before Harvey was dismissed for 18. 2 balls later Hodge was dismissed and Victoria were struggling at 3/36. 3 Overs later Moss was out edging a ball to the keeper for 14. Victoria at this stage were 4/41, and on the back foot. Hussey and Rummans made something from nothing, putting on a 30 runs stand before Hussey was dismissed for only 14. Rummans received little support from White and Berry who made 5 runs each, and Warne entered Rummans exited for 43 runs, the highest score this match. Warne and Lewis were unbeaten at the end of the innings, putting on a 14 runs between them. Victoria won by 2 wickets with 29 overs left. The MOTM was awarded to Jason Gillespie with his figures of 4/40 (6.0 Overs). Tasmania head to the MCG to play Victoria in their next match.
