MATCH REPORT
Ricky Ponting won the toss and elected to field in Pleasant conditions. Although Virender Sehwag hit his first ball for 6, he was dismissed next ball with a mistimed leg glance to Simon Katich. Two deliveries later Sourav Ganguly had the long walk back to pavilion. A small 14 run partnership by Tendulkar and Dravid was ended again by Ian Harvey, then next ball Kaif was dismissed. Then a bunch of average partnerships were made by the Indian batsmen, making up their total of 104 off 12.5 overs. Ian Harvey was the best of the bowlers with figures of 6/35 off 4 overs. Shane Warne also did his part in the innings trapping the top scorer Youraj Singh in front of his stumps for 30 runs. He ended up with figures of 3/31 of 3.5 overs.

Just like the Indians, Australia lost two early wickets. A 63 run partnership between Ricky Ponting and Damien Martyn put the result beyond doubt. When the partnership ended Australia were 3/72. Shortly after Ponting was dismissed Martyn made his debut Half Century of the Competition off just 26 deliveries. His partnership with Brad hodge didn't last long, with Hodge trying to smash a ball pitched up by Balaji over mid on. Simon Katich is his first match of the championship scored a well made 13* of 14 deliveries. Australia won the game easily by 6 wickets. The "Man of the Match" was awarded to Ian Harvey for his effort with the ball (6/35 off 4 overs). Australia head into the next game 1-0 up, and are looking favourites to take out the series.
