MATCH REPORT
The Stage was set for Australia to win yet another One Day Series right after they won their second consecutive World Cup. It was a warm day and Sourav Ganguly decided to put Australia into bat. Both openers got starts but couldn't go on to make a big score. Gilchrist was run out from a very silly run, while Hayden was caught at mid on by Balaji trying to hit over the top. Martyn was sent in when the scores were at 2/30, and didn't last long, for only a 4 run partnership with Ricky Ponting. Katich was next in and him and Ponting made a good 24 run Partnership before Katich got a rush of blood to the head, trying to hit over Singh's head in covers, he was out for a well made 18. Australia at this stage were 4/60 and were in a pretty good position. The next wicket to fall was that of Ponting for 28. A small collapse had Australia at 7/98 and struggling a bit, but some composure from Ian Harvey and Cameron White, had Australia at 7/144 before Mongia struck and Australia were all out for 146.

The Run Chase started shakily for India losing the dangeous Sachin Tendulkar first delivery of the match. Ganguly followed Tendulkar two balls later, and India were suddenly 2/4. Harvey's second over too proved a good one for Australia Pickin up Dravid for 5 runs, and Kaif next ball. Harvey had been on about 4 hat-tricks this whole series and hasn't converted on yet, and this game wasn't any different either. The next four wickets fell for a measly 13 runs, courtesy of the spin bowling of Stuart MacGill, who picked up half of the wickets. Sehwag was the highest scorer for India notching up 46 runs. No other batsman besides Mongia proved a hassle for these Australian bowlers. It was a close decision for "Man of the Match" between Ian Harvey and Dinesh Mongia but in the end it was given to Harvey, who picked up 6 wickets for 37 runs of his 3.4 overs. Australia once again win the VB Series and all can India do now is think to themselves, What went wrong?

The Player of the Series was awarded to Ian Harvey. He got 27 wickets at an average of 6.81. His best bowling figures were 7/18.
