Story International Cricket - Great Series

Am going to restart my Pakistan 'B' tour using a couple of rule changes I found.
The last game I played was with the test engine on IC Helper so the scores were a bit slow.

India 'B' v Pakistan 'B' at Bangalore, 1st Unofficial ODI (50 overs), 1978

Pitch:88 (6A) Hard pitch with excessive bounce.
Weather: 8 Overcast

India 'B' won the toss and inserted the Pakistanis in overcast conditions on a pitch expected to offer lift and bounce to the seamers, and a bit of extra turn to the wrist spinners.
The overcast conditions should help India's seamers, all of who swing the ball.

Pitch: 88 (6A) Hard pitch with excessive bounce.

Pakistan 'B' began well, with their openers reaching the first drink break without loss.
Both batsmen played particularly well despite the seam friendly conditions, playing a number of good shots.
Talat Ali struck a couple of sixes in a powerful display, while Taslim Arif played steadily at the other end, neither batsman offering a chance.

Pakistan 'B' progressed well, adding another 71 runs off 17 overs leading up to the 2nd Drinks break for just the loss of Taslim Arif.

Arif was out stumped, missing a forward defence against Yadav, after earlier surviving a close lbw shout against Doshi.

Mohsin survived an lbw appeal against Yadav, but offered no more chances and was unbeaten on 26 at Drinks, with Talat Ali not out on 66.

Talat Ali continued to play some fine shots in a chanceless innings.

The weather changed in the 18th over, making things easier for the batsmen against the seamers, and of the bowlers, only Yadav troubled the batsmen in what was a tidy spell.

Pakistan crumbled in the slog overs in the face of a fine display of swing bowling by Roger Binny.

Binny claimed 5 wickets for 2 runs in his final 3 overs as the opposition batsmen found him almost impossible to hit.

Mudassar remained not out 19, but the other batsmen failed to capitalise on a good platform set by Talat and Mohsin.

Yadav bowled his offspinners well in the middle overs to claim 3-34, but it was Binny who was the star of the show, shutting down the batsmen in the final overs when it seemed a big total was in the offing.

Talat top scored with 86, unlucky to miss his century in what was a chanceless innings up to that point. He struck the ball beautifully, hitting 3 sixes, and was largely responsible for the Pakistanis reaching a defendable total.

The pitch changed to Uneven with a couple overs to go, but this was not a factor in the collapse, it was just a succession of poor shots by the Pakistani 'B' batsmen.

IC Helper is a free program a user of International Cricket made to help players play the game.
You need to buy the original dice game from Lambourne Games to find the helper useful, it is not standalone.
I found it a bit buggy and have gone back to just playing the game with dice.
The Helper is only for Tests, the ODI version of the game uses different rules and tables.

India started badly in their chase against fine opening bowling by Saleem Altaf and Sikander Bakht.

Sikander beat Srikkanth a number of times with swinging deliveries, before pinning him lbw for 16.

Gaekwad had been first to go, bowled missing a defensive shot to Saleem Altaf after a very slow start.

India 'B' built themselves a solid platform as conditions turned back to Overcast.

Offering a number of chances, the batsmen rode their luck, Mudassar in particular causing problems in the overcast conditions.

Lamba and Yashpal were both unbeaten on 38 at Drinks, having scored slowly, but slowly increasing their rate as their innings progressed.

With 16 overs to go, India 'B' need 116 runs to win, at about 7.5 runs per over, with both batsmen set and ready to hit out.

Despite the best efforts of Lamba and Yashpal, the India 'B' chase petered out due mainly to some fine bowling by offspinner Mohammad Nazir.

Nazir claimed 5-35 in an excellent performance, stifling the batsmen as they attempted to hit out in the final overs.

The Indians needed 77 from their final 10 overs with 8 wickets in hand and Yashpal and Lamba well set, but could manage only 48 for the loss of 6 wickets in a disappointing effort.

Both teams named unchanged lineups from the 50 over game, intent on giving their first choice players as much match practice as possible early in the tour.

Pakistan 'B' won the toss and with the wicket predicted to deteriorate on the 3rd day, elected to bat first on a good batting wicket.

The openers struggled early, and Talat Ali was first to go for 5, lbw trying to turn a good length ball from Ghavri through midwicket.

Mohsin joined Taslim Arif and the batting found some momentum.

Mohsin fresh off a half century in the 50 over game was looking good, before skying Doshi to midwicket, where Binny took an easy catch.

Mansoor Akhtar then joined Arif, and the pair took Pakistan 'B' to Lunch with no further loss.

There were few alarms for the batsmen, and the pair should be looking to build on their partnership after Lunch in good conditions.

India 'B' created no chances other than the wickets, and will be looking to improve with the ball in the 2nd session.

Pakistan 'B' progressed well after Lunch, adding 102 runs in the session for just the loss of Mansoor Akhtar for 22.

Mansoor had earlier looked good, but fell to a diving catch at short leg by Srikkanth off Madan Lal.

Madan Lal bowled a superb spell of 6-3-5-1 after Lunch, also having Haroon dropped on 1 by a diving Kirmani, but when he tired the other bowlers struggled to keep a lid on the scoring.

Taslim Arif continued to bat well, while Haroon Rashid belted a huge 6 and was looking good at the other end until he strained a muscle and lost the ability to Bat Well, forcing a more defensive outlook.

At Tea the pair had taken their unbroken partnership to 98, with Taslim closing in on a hundred.

Haroon was lucky to survive an appeal on 52 when fielders felt he clearly edged the ball to Kirmani and should have walked, with the batsman copping some verbal abuse from Indian fielders.

Stumps Day 1

A couple of light showers interrupted play during the final session, shortening play by about 30 minutes all up.

The Indian 'B' managed to bowl another 26 overs in the available time, conceding another 65 runs in a tidier but still luckless display.

Doshi had a confident lbw shout against Haroon turned down when the batsman had made 61, but apart from that there were no chances.

Taslim Arif brought up a chanceless century in the meantime off 220 balls and was still ubeaten at stumps, with captain Haroon who had made 86 despite struggling with a muscle strain.

Madan Lal was the pick of the bowlers conceding just 30 runs in 18 probing overs, but he and Ghavri failed to strike with the 2nd new ball in worrying signs for the home team.

Pakistan 'B' will be happy to see the day out, with Haroon able to recover from his muscle strain overnight and resume batting well again if he gets his eye in during the morning.

With the pitch wearing the visitors will be happy to have the runs on the board after a productive first day.

Lunch, Day 2

The home team's bowlers fared better on the second morning, claiming 3 wickets for 98.

Haroon Rasheed brought up his hundred off 200 balls, before being bowled by a K.D.Ghavri inswinger for 101, ending his 4th wicket partnership with Arif on 192.

Taslim Arif was eventually out for 140, caught bat pad by Yadav off Doshi.

Doshi claimed another when he had Wasim Raja bowled attempting a sweep for 5.

Abdul Qadir then joined Mudassar, and the pair saw the visitors through to Lunch with no further loss.

The pitch has deteriorated during the session, now becoming Uneven, leaving the Pakistanis who have runs on the board in a strong position.
