India 'B' v Pakistan 'B' at Bombay, 1st Unofficial Test (4 days), 1978

Pitch: (7) Uneven bounce

Weather: (4) Mainly cloudy, some sunny intervals

Pakistan 'B' eventually declared their innings closed at 404/9 with the loss of their last recognised batsman in Mudassar for 47.

Mudassar was out to a brilliant running catch at deep mid off by key outfield B.P.Patel, who ran 30 yards and dived to take a great catch off Doshi.

Earlier Abdul Qadir had hooked Doshi to long leg to be out for 24, and Saleem Altaf had offered no shot to Binny and lost his off bail for 3.

Doshi toiled well to take a well earned 5 wicket haul on a pitch that so far has offered no extra turn.

The visitors would be happy with their efforts, with a strong bowling attack to exploit the favourable conditions as the match wears on.

The home team started nervously, losing Srikkanth to a firey new ball spell from Saleem Altaf who created a number of chances.

Srikkanth was out to an easy catch in the gully for just 6 in a bad start for the Indians.

Gaekwad was steady, timing the ball well despite playing defensively and not being set.

India 'B' were struggling at stumps after losing another 3 wickets in the post Tea session.

Lamba was out bowled through the gate by a turning Qadir delivery for a scratchy 22.

Gaekwad soon followed from a mistimed drive to cover point off Mohammad Nazir where Mohsin took an easy catch.

Paceman Saleem Altaf was summoned for one last effort before stumps, and came up trumps, beating Patel for pace to dismiss him for 21.

Yashpal was not out 15, and Binny unbeaten on zero, as the home team went to stumps in some trouble at 107/4.

India 'B' were eventually dismissed for a poor total of 178 by a varied and skillful Pakistan 'B' bowling attack.

Wickets fell steadily as a succession of batsmen played poor shots.

Yashpal was unlucky, taken in a brilliant diving catch by Wasim Raja inches from the ground, but apart from that the batsmen were all complicit in their own demise.

Mohammad Nazir and Saleem Altaf picked up 4 wickets apiece in an impressive display by the visitors.

Haroon Rasheed chose not to enforce the follow on, intent on giving his batsmen as much batting practice as possible early in the tour.

Pakistan 'B' struggled to Tea on Day 3, adding 65 runs off 33 overs for the loss of 2 wickets.

Talat Ali failed for a second time in the match, putting his place in doubt, scoring only 13 before being bowled by a Roger Binny inswinger.

Mohsin Khan struggled to get going, eventually being bowled through the gate by a turning delivery from offspinner Yadav for his first wicket of the match.

Mudassar remained not out, a typically slow innings, along with Mansoor Akhtar who needs some runs.

Left arm spinner Doshi stangled the batsmen, conceding just 4 runs in a 10 over spell with 6 maidens, and was unlucky not to take a wicket.

Pakistan completed a messy innings following the loss of top scorer Mudassar for 40, closing on 93/6 declared after finding difficulty on a turning pitch against the spinners.

Haroon called a halt when it appeared nothing more could be achieved, setting India 'B' 320 to win in around 7 hours or 110 overs.

Both spinners enjoyed their work, particularly Yadav after a poor first innings.

The Pakistani spinners will be licking their fingers in prospect of a turning 4th day pitch on which to unleash their variations.

Stumps, Day 3

India 'B' got off to a positiive start in their chase of 320, adding 61 runs in 15 overs of solid batting.

Srikkanth was the only man out, knicking behind off Sikander Bakht for a second failure in the match.

Gaekwad and Lamba were undaunted, and with positive strokeplay took toll of a loos Sikander, who conceded 42 in 6 overs.

The Pakistan 'B' captain will be feeling the pressure after his declaration, but now the real test begins in the morning against the spinners who will start with a close field against unset batsmen.

Pakistan 'B' completed an easy victory midway between Lunch and Tea on the final day, as none of the India 'B' batsmen really came to grips with accurate legspin bowling on a spinning pitch.

Abdul Qadir picked up 5-36 and Wasim Raja 3-20 as the visitors won easily with over a session to spare.

For India 'B', captain Kirmani top scored with 40, while Gaekwad again fought well for 30.

Man of the match was Taslim Arif, who missed a couple of tough chances with the gloves, but generally had a good game behind the stumps, and top scored with 140 in Pakistan 'B's first innings.

The pakistanis caught well, especially Wasim Raja, who took a couple of great catches to go with his 3 wickets.

Breaking News...Pakistan 'B' in India, 1978

Pakistan 'B' have called up 5 Under 19 players to the squad for their tour of India 'B'.
The players are: Rizwan-uz-Zaman, Shoaib Mohammad, Rameez Raja, Salim Malik, and Anil Dalpat (wk).
This swells their squad to 17, and changes are certain for the lineup for the remaining matches, with Ashraf Ali, reserve keeper, also yet to get a game.
India 'B' on the other hand would not be sure what to do with the balance of their side, with Binny's form with the bat an issue.

Also, in other breaking news, a 3rd Unofficial Test has been added to the program, due to overwhelming crowd support from the locals for the first two matches.
It is not clear where this game will be played at present, but details and more tour reports will follow.

Pitch: (3) Normal pitch

Weather: Hot and Sunny

The visitors won the toss and elected to bat on a pitch expected to offer turn on the 3rd and 4th days of the match.

Both sides included 3 spinners, but on the first two days there was nothing in the pitch for them as Pakistan 'B' piled up another big first innings score.

The Pakistanis lost a couple of early wickets, but a slow innings by Talat, and a faster 78 by the impressive Saleem Malik resurrected the ship.

A couple of more wickets followed, but Wasim Raja and Ashraf Ali piled on centuries in a 6th wicket partnership of 198.

Haroon eventually declared when the total passed 400, with wicketkeeper Ashraf Ali unbeaten on 122*.

India "B' looked like slipping to another heavy defeat at 150/7 on Day 3, before being rescued by a 150 run partnership between Ghavri and Ayub.

Ghavri made 66, and Arshad Ayub a surprising hundred, as the pakistani bowlers failed to make any impact on a normal pitch.

The home team eventually trailed by 69 when earlier it looked as if passing the follow on target would be difficult.

Nazir claimed 4 wickets in a tireless display, but most of the bowling lacked bite on a pitch that offered them little.

Pakistan 'B' again struggled in their 2nd innings, but managed to set the home team a chase of 231 in around 50 overs on the final day.

Ashraf again top scored, this time with an unbeaten 50, as he and Wasim Raja again rescued their team.

Doshi was the pick of the bowlers, claiming 4 wickets with his probing left arm spin.

With the pitch now turning, the spinners did the bulk of the work once the new ball lost it's shine.

India 'B' escaped with the draw in the final session mainly through a solid half century from Gaekwad.

A few of the other batsmen made starts, and India 'B' managed to survive 51 overs for the loss of 5 wickets.

The bowlers struggled for impact despite an uneven pitch now offering all the bowlers assistance.

With one match to play in the Unofficial Test series and 1-0 down India 'B' have some more thinking to do.

Man of the match was again the Pakistani 'B' wicketkeeper, this time Ashraf Ali, who made an unbeaten hundred in the first innings, and 50 not out in the 2nd.

India 'B' v Pakistan 'B', 3rd Unofficial Test (4 days), at Calcutta, 1978

Pitch: 1A Very Slow Paced Wicket

Weather: Hot and Sunny

India 'B' won the toss, and with the wicket very slow paced and likely to remain that way for the match, decided to bat first.

Once again their top order struggled, and this time they were propped up by an excellent century by Patel.

Scoring was terribly slow during the innings due to the slow pitch, meaning most batsmen's best shots failed to be rewarded fully.

Sikander Bakht took 5-87 for Pakistan 'B' in an excellent performance on a pitch which offered him nothing.

The Indian team declared their innings at 300, shortly after Patel was out for 128.

India 'B' v Pakistan 'B', 3rd Unofficial Test (4 days), at Calcutta, 1978

India 'B' bowled well to dismiss the Pakistanis for 174, with Doshi leading the way again with 4-38.

Mohsin Khan top scored with 53, and Mudassar made a slow 39, as all of the top order made starts.

The innings ended after over 110 overs, the pitch once again too slow for entertaining cricket.

India 'B' lead by 126, and will no doubt declare to set up a run chase, but probably don't have enough time left to bowl the visitors out again on such a slow pitch.
