News from the Australian Tour of Zimbabwe in September 1991

David Boon fined and suspended after drinking binge in team hotel

Australian batsman David Boon has been fined and suspended for 1 match by team management for a breach of discipline in the team hotel.
A shirtless Boon passed out drunk in the hotel lobby and had to be wheeled to his room on a luggage trolley by team mates after a long drinking binge and will miss the opening match of the tour.
The Australian XI begin their tour of Zimbabwe with a 50 over match against the ZCU President's XI in Harare today without their experienced top order batsman.

ZCU President's XI v Australian XI - 50 over match - at Harare Sports Club, Harare - 1991/2

Pitch: 1 - Very Good Batting Wicket

Weather: 1 - Hot and Sunny

Toss: Australia

Australia won the Toss and batted first on what looked a great batting wicket but got off to a slow start after a tight opening spell by ZCU President's captain Heath Streak.
Geoff Marsh was eventually out for 45 with the score on 91, one of 3 wickets to offspinner Stephen Peall as the score slipped to 119/3 off 35 overs.
When Mark Taylor was out for a slow half century it was left to Steve Waugh and Allan Border to add an unbroken 103 in 15 overs to drag them to typical 1990's total of 222 off 50 overs.
New Australian captain Steve Waugh top scored with 65* not out of 58 balls with 10 boundaries
Just 3 wickets fell in the innings and at the halfway mark the visitors would have been reasonably happy with their total given the inexperienced look of the home side's batting lineup.
