Story Kent - A Cricket07 Story - Season Finished

I haven't exactly been the most avid follower of this story but I can safely say that this is the first time i've the seen the opposition reach 200. It must be an abnormally good pitch...

Nope, its a green wicket on 5 star. So no edges and totally useless wicketkeepers (Hence the massive extras total).

Kent v Sussex - Liverpool Victoria County Championship - Canterbury
Day 2 - 1st Session

Kirtley manages to hang around for 15 minutes before he edges to Jones to give Saggers his third wicket.

Half an hour later Jones cant believe it, he hangs onto his third catch of the innings to dismiss Navel-ul-Hasan for 6 and give Saggers his 4th wicket. Sussex are all out for 222.

Kent start their reply at 12:01 and lose an early wicket when Walker edges to third slip playing a defensive shot.

Predictably, 20 minutes into Kent's innings the rain arrives with the score at 16/1.

Day 2 - 2nd Session

Fortunatley the rain delay is shorter than forecast and play resumes at 2:16pm.

Fulton and Key build a reasonable partnership before Ward takes an amazing reaction catch to dismiss Fulton for 31.

w2ey0.jpg

Key falls just two runs short of his half century when he edges to Prior playing a straight drive.

w3cd7.jpg

Martin van Jaarsveld and Geraint Jones take Kent through to tea and are batting reasonably fast. At the break the score is 127/3.

Day 2 - 3rd Session

Jones and van Jaarsveld continue to bat positivley after tea and its not until the introduction of Mushy Ahmed that things start to look up for Sussex. Jones is trapped LBW by Ahmed by a ball that kept very low indeed.

Kirtley takes full advantage of having a new batsman at the crease. Denly edges playing defensively and Ward takes an excellent catch at second slip.

w5bm4.jpg

Bravo falls early to another good slip catch, this time by Adams. Kent have gone from 158/3 to 176/6.

w6jm6.jpg

van Jaarsveld is joined at the crease by Henderson and once again the South African pairing are charged with restoring a faltering Kent batting performance. van Jaarsveld duely responds and reaches his half century.

mvj50xt4.jpg

He fails to get any further though, and is runout without adding to his score.

w7hd2.jpg

Henderson is joined at the crease by Cook and the pair bat well to take Kent past Sussex's first innings total. Everything is looking good for Kent until the last two overs of the day. In the penultimate over Henderson is caught and once again a defensive shot proves the downfall of a Kent batsman.

w8dr0.jpg

Then, with 2 balls remaining in the days play Cook becomes Cottey's first victim.

w9wc3.jpg

Kent will start the third day with one wicket in hand and with a lead of 32. Sussex can be very happy with their bowling performance and could be in with a chance of becoming the first team to beat Kent in the championship if they bat well tomorrow.

Kev i think you need to send the game back to be repaired :p it's actually a close game!

Kent v Sussex - Liverpool Victoria County Championship - Canterbury
Day 3 - 1st Session

Kent last just 4 balls into the third day and manage to add just 1 run (Khan) before Ahmed unleashes a ball that if far too good for Saggers.

aoho0.jpg

Sussex start their second innings well and the openers take Sussex to a lead of 29 runs before (with Bravo's 1st ball) they lose their first wicket.

w1ht2.jpg

Sussex go in at lunch with the score at 72/1, a lead of 39runs.

I bet you're enjoying the challenge Kev:p And finally, the PC are going at a respectable and realistic rate:D I'm still backing you not to lose for the first time though, they'll probably have a typical EA collapse.

Kent v Sussex - Liverpool Victoria County Championship - Canterbury
Day 3 - 2nd Session

The lunch break came at just the wrong time for Sussex and in the third over after the break Saggers gets the key wicket of Montgomerie for 43.

w2zy1.jpg

Sussex are still looking good, but then Dwayne Bravo changes everything with a magnificant spell. First he bowls Adams for 7.

w3ku3.jpg

Then Yardy bags a first baller.

w4vk3.jpg

Bravo starts his next over on a hat-trick, which he completes when van Jaarsveld takes the catch to dismiss Prior.

w5qh2.jpg

Sussex are rocked by Bravo's spell but recover and its not until a few overs before the tea break that Kent take their next wicket. Martin van Jaarsveld is given the ball by Key and he picks up the wicket of Cottey with his second ball. At tea Sussex are 126/6, with a lead of 93.

Kent v Sussex - Liverpool Victoria County Championship - Canterbury
Day 3 - 3rd Session

Simon Cook is left wondering what he has to do to get a wicket after Jones drops an edge from Ahmed. Cook has consistantly got the most out of the wicket of the Kent bowlers but has had no luck at all.

droptq3.jpg

To rub salt into Cook's wounds, part-time bowler van Jaarsveld cleans up Mushy Ahmed in the next over for 8. Mushy played almost exactly the same shot that got him out in the first innings and the result is the same.

w7ov3.jpg

Henderson takes Kent's next wicket, its that of Goodwin. Sussex look totally sunk now.

w8ys9.jpg

Cook finally picks up a wicket in the match when Kirtley edges to Jones, giving the gloveman his 5th catch of the match.

w9lk9.jpg

The final wicket of the innings goes to Henderson. Naved-ul-Hasan hits on straight up in the air and Cook takes the catch to close out the innings for 155.

statsv2mk8.jpg

There is time for just 2 overs of Kent's second innings, the umpire calls stumps with the score at 3/0. Kent require 120 runs to win and have a day to get them.

120 runs looks very easy, but this looks a fair game on a greenish wicket so i wouldnt be suprised if we saw some fireworks, maybe even a close finish but i still have Kent on for the win.

Cracking presentation as always Kev.

Day 4 - 1st Session

Day four starts badly for Kent when Fulton edges to Adams early on.

w1rk7.jpg

Then Rob Key's innings lasts about as long as a Pasty in Bristol. Suddenly Kent are 9/2.

w2xe5.jpg

Matt Walker is next to go, when he gives his wicket away with a silly shot, just as he was starting to look settled.

w3zz3.jpg

Kent settle down a bit and van Jaarsveld and Jones are looking comfortable at the crease but then the left armer, Lewry bowls van Jaarsveld just before the lunchbreak. Kent are 82/4 at the end of the session.
