Kent v Middlesex - Liverpool Victoria County Championship - Canterbury
Day 1 - 1st Session

Kent host Middlesex for their final game of the season on a bright but chilly day. Middlesex win the toss and decide to bat first.

Middlesex open with Ed Smith and Andrew Strauss. Smith (who scored a century in the reverse leg early in the season) is out cheaply, with only 3 runs on the board.

The only other action of the session happens just before the lunch break when Joyce is bowled by Bravo for 11.

Day 1 - 2nd Session

Andrew Strauss moves on to 46 quite quickly after lunch but he stalls and is stuck just four runs short of his half century for what seems like an age, eventually, at around 3pm, frustration gets the better of him and he is bowled by Cook.

His replacement at the crease Godleman, doesn't hang around for very long and is bowled by Bravo for 1 as Middlesex struggle to 84/4.

Middlesex survive to tea without further loss of wickets.

Day 1 - 3rd Session

The third session of play is largely uneventful as the all pace Kent attack fails to make an impression. With just 5 minutes of play remaining in the day there is a glimmer of excitement as Dalrymple ups the pace to reach his half century.

Dalrymple fails to convert his fifty into a bigger score however. He is out the very next ball giving none other than Rob Key a wicket! The Kent captain had decided to give his approximation of spin a showing after the failure of his pace bowlers to take wickets.

Middlesex close out the day on 186/5.

But just after hitting Joseph for a huge six, the Kent bowler gets the ultimate revenge.

Nash and Weekes occupy the crease for the majority of the session, but the pair fail to add a reasonable amount of runs before Nash is bowled by Kent youngster, Dexter.

Bravo continues his fine bowling form when he picks up the wicket of Weeks.

Day 2 - 2nd Session

Middlesex's tail lasts only into the third over after lunch. Saggers takes an amazing reaction catch to dismiss Louw for 2 from Bravo's bowling.

Keegan then repeats the exact same shot the very next ball, Bravo gets a 5 fer and Middlesex are all out for 234.

Fulton and Key open for Kent and the pair race to 50 before Fulton knicks one through to Nash for 24.

Denly replaces Fulton and the run rate slows a bit, but Key still manages to reach his half century in 66 balls.

Day 2 - 3rd Session

Key and Denly continue to frustrate the bowlers after tea. Denly is dropped at second slip on 40 but goes on to reach his half century in 90 balls, with 3 fours and a six.

Rob Key reaches his century just before stumps and he does it in style, smashing a huge six.

Day 3 - 1st Session

There are further frustrations for Middlesex as Denly is dropped for the second time, this time he is on 79. Shortly afterwards though the middlesex players have big smiles on their faces when Key is dismissed for 135.

Denly goes on to reach is century in 166 balls including 4 fours and 2 sixes before he is eventually out for 127.

Kent lose van Jaarsveld without adding to the score when the South African gloves one to Strauss in the slips.

w4jpg5b107975.jpg

Dexter is next to go, he goes for 13 just as he was starting to look comfortable.

w5jpgda5154fe.jpg

O'Brien is given the hurry up and hits 3 fours in one over allowing Kent to declare on 350/5 just in time for lunch. Key obviously not wanting to repeat his mistake against Middlesex earlier in the season when Kent batted past 550 before declaring and then allowing Middlesex to hang on for the draw.
