Kshitiz's Cricket Sim 09 Discussion/Testing

One small thing I have noticed is the bowling card is not based on the order in which players are bowling. I'm not sure if it's random or not.
Also is the maximum number of bowlers who bowl 6?

@ Gary - looks like me and JJ are pretty evenly matched. They probably just had the edge. :(

The teams-
If anyone wants to use for testing-[Only 11 players]

This may or may not have been said somewhere in this thread yet but I'm having a bit of an bug with the simulator. I have no idea why it's happening but I downloaded the file on the first page Biggy uploaded and I downloaded it. I set it up, opened the program and pressed 1, then enter. Now, here's the problem, I enter 'AUS' for Australia, click enter, it goes to the screen that asks me to type in the code for the second team. So, naturally I type in 'ENG' for England. As soon as I press the enter button again instead of going to another selection screen or whatever it is meant to go to, it goes directly back to the menu. So, I really have no idea as to what I may be doing incorrectly or if it is simply a bug in the simulator's system but help, ideas, solutions etc would be of major significance and help.

Ok will do tomorrow , took me like 15min per team

Oh sorry, I meant to say that you can copy them across! Sorry my bad! :(:facepalm

1. Use the new version.
2. When you download team files, you have to put them in the folder of the program, which is also said to be "root directory".

Please note, do not mix the older team files biggy uploaded with the new version! :)

Fair enough. For one I have been using the latest version of your cricket simulator program. Secondly, I did put the files in the folder containing the program, and lastly, I created two teams manually and it still didn't work. The same thing occured and the game just went back to the menu.

Very strange. If you've been using the newest version, [found on Cricket Sim 09, first post] you shouldn't be having this, in fact it gives an error message if it doesn't find a team file.

It could be that you used the older files though?

Kshitiz,

You've done an excellent job on this simulator and everything runs smoothly. However, I feel you've made the run-rates a bit too high. Scores of 220+ are frequent in this game, yet they are extremely rare in real life. There are a lot of lower scores in real life - such as 100-140, yet they are very rare in this game as well. I think the batsmen are a bit overpowered - or at least the aggression is too high. I notice that a lot of wickets are falling but the run rate is still too high - lower batsmen might not be able to score as fast and they might just want to try and keep the innings going..

By the way, I'm getting these high scores when I have set all the players to 75 aggression - is this too much? I felt this was fairly balanced and would enable me to score at a reasonable pace.

I'm doing a test right now, between two teams where everyone has 1 ability, and then another where everyone has 100 ability. I want to see if the scores will be different with the 1 ability players compared to the 100 ability players.

Despite this, I'm still getting scores like 3/238 and such and I just think that it's a bit too high.

It may be. Like I said though, I created a team manually, and it still didn't work out for me. So I don't know what's going on. I'll post a video up it a while of me attempting to start a match, just to show you what I mean.

First of all, thanks mate.
Secondly, on the run rates thing, well to reduce the batsmen's prowess you've gotta give the bowlers a bit fairer go. Its all about tuning the averages right. Scales of the bowler abilities are not linear to the batsmen's.
It's also about the difference the tailenders / lower order have with the top order batsman, relative to the difference between the bowlers that bowl in the beginning / death and the ones who bowl middle overs. That's as much as I can say!

I think the best example would be seen in the PCPL. Zorax has been working hard to find the right averages! :p

Besides, on your second test, I can tell you now :p There won't be much difference apart from the luck element...

Yeah well a video will help. Anyways you might be running the program from somewhere it doesn't have permission to write / read files from. If you're using Vista / Win7, try right clicking and run as administrator, or run the program from somewhere your account has permissions to read and write.

Spinsky - I think that neither of your sides has a wicketkeeper, so try changing one of the players in each to a wicketkeeper and see if it works.

I've said this already so I won't repeat it again, so take note. I created the teams manually. So, naturally the Australian and English teams both include a wicket-keeper.

There is a brief message that flashes at 0:09 in your video.

" does not have a keeper. Please give them a keeper before continuing."

However, it does not state a team, so it most likely is a bug in the game.. or something wrong you've done.
