Last Movie You Watched

Speaking of which, I still have no idea why The Avengers is considered good. One of the most average films I've seen, just your typical action flick except there are some superheros.

I find it to be a good film, maybe even great, but the main thing is, it doesn't claim to be something it's not like TDKR, it's not a storytelling masterpiece, but it's not mindless action/destruction porn either, in the superhero film sphere, The Avengers is king, that is still what I believe you want in a superhero movie, it's an ensemble film where each and every character plays some sort of role in pushing the story (however weak you may find it), while TDK is the best in the genre, The Avengers is my favorite.

I don't think TDKR ever claimed to be a storytelling masterpiece ! The movie was promoted as a summer blockbuster, and as the final conclusion to Nolan's batman trilogy, and that is exactly what we got.

How Bruce Wayne got to Gotham after escaping the pit ? Its been a while since I watched it, but lets see. He survived for years on his own in lifeless landscapes while he was studying crime and criminals in Batman Begins. So survival is hardly a problem. Other than that, despite being technically "broke" one can safely assume that Bruce has plenty of important/useful contacts who could arrange for his transport. He literally had a guy airlift him of a building in the middle of Hong Kong downtown in TDK (what a scene!!).

Cinematic liberty ? Yes. Plot hole ? Nope

It is considered good (rather great) because it delivered what it set out to deliver :) Again, an unapologetic-summer-blockbuster-superhero-ensemble movie. And what really stood out was how well the roles were distributed amongst the multiple protagonists.

Old tale, fresh treatment. The humor and the chemistry between the characters really put it on a different level

Nolan's Batman trilogy is not a bunch of mere summer blockbusters, maybe TDKR is, but not Batman Begins and TDK, those are actually solid well rounded films, and almighty tweak me for expecting the same from the TDKR.

I wasn't questioning his ability to survive, just escaping the pit shows how good a survivor he is, what I question is how he magically gets out of the pit and appears in Gotham, yes he has plenty of important/useful contacts, it's just too bad he has no way of contacting them (:rolleyes), shame I didn't see anyone airlift him from the pit to Gotham, that would've been good enough for me.

- I am simply arguing that the movie was never promoted as a "storytelling masterpiece". You expecting it to be one is your baggage at the end of the day :) Besides, both TDK and Batman Begins have their share of plot-holes if someone really wants to nitpick

- We can again safely assume that if he can survive the stuff that he has, then finding a resource to contact someone is hardly something to be worried about. And I personally am very glad they did not bother showing his escape, because all I wanted Bruce to do at that point in the movie was to get to Gotham, put on that suit and save the day, which is what he did :D

While I can understand your disappointment at TDKR not meeting your expectations, I don't quite share it myself

Except it was indirectly, if the first 2 films in a trilogy are storytelling masterpieces, I'd be expecting the same from it's sequel, and my point is that while Batman Begins and TDK had their plot holes (even though I can't think of any), they weren't glaring as the ones in TDKR (we haven't even gone into the ending in that film).

Anyway, if the film met your expectations, then that's just how it is, the film originally did meet my expectations and I did think it was good after my first viewing, but it was with multiple viewings that I started seeing how overrated it is.

BB and TDK were brilliant. Storytelling masterpieces might be stretching it though lol.

and TDKR more than met my expectations. I came out very satisfied and pumped from the theaters (both times). And it doesnt get stale for me even now. Must have watched it 5-6 times in all. Same as TDK and more than BB (i think)

Maybe generalising a bit, but I feel that 'most of the people' disappointed with the movie were simply victims of their inability to control their ridiculously sky high expectations :spy

That's the thing, my expectations were really not that high, I've seen how trilogies end, within the superhero genre even, X-Men 3, Spider-Man 3, need I say more.

So I merely just wanted a good film, and that's what I thought it was at first, I remember coming home after seeing it, the whole ride thinking about how if Nolan changed his mind about a 4th film, it could be called The Dark Knight Returns (I had just then learned about the graphic novel of the same title) and a older Batman would comeback to Gotham to fight a Joker (ofc played by a different actor :() broke out of prison and hell bent on destroying Gotham, I still hold out hope for that...

But long story short, a few months later, I saw it on HBO, I found the movie completely cheap and not exerting the kind of confidence you'd want from a filmmaker like Nolan, I mean that ending... ugh, so quickly I watched it again a few days after thinking I'd change my mind, not the case, my unhappiness with it just grew even more.

The Damned United

Probably the only good football film I've seen.

I'd totally 100% agree with this but I'd also throw the two other batman films in with TDKR. Honestly, it was a billionaire, dressed as a bat, running about fighting baddies dressed as scarecrows and clowns. the first one was an ok origins story, the second one was saved only by heath ledger giving a genuinely brilliant turn as the joker but still bad, and the third was utter garbage. it took itself so seriously it was embarrassing.

the avengers by comparison was genuinely funny, suprising, beautiful and exciting. There was loads of properly good jokes and it managed to really flesh out the characters really well because the dialogue was original and witty. Batman just rambled on and one about choices and defining people with michael caine popping up to offer some metaphor just in case you didn't get how much your choices define you.

I can't wait to see the new avengers because it will be a ton of fun and will sit through the old one if it's on TV for some of the jokes, I wouldn't watch the TDKR again if you paid me.

Saw Transformers 4 last night, just stay the almighty tweak away from it if you didn't like the last 2 Transformers (I personally liked the first one), I was literally halfway into the film looking at my phone hoping it was done, the run time is ridiculous, lot of it could've been shredded, it's probably better than the 2nd and 3rd, but it's still the same old ----...
