Lockdown tournament (SEASON 2 - Updates in first post)

What a way to finish the group stages.

The Glasgow Grubbers, led by Ravi Bopara and a stirring performance from Peter Trego, almost saw them overhaul Spartans. But MS Dhoni's side were too good and qualified thanks to a 9 run win.

That left the final match. After today's matches only a win would be good enough for San Francisco to qualify. Blocktown could lose and still make it. Blocktown batted first and made a great start before the Kiwi spinners, Astle and Santner, struck. Blocktown lost 4 for 17 between overs 6 and 10. It was looking like all hope was lost when Ed Pollock, getting his first chance to bat in the tournament, came to the crease. The last three batsman had all gone back without scoring but Pollock went for it. His 54 from 27 helped push Blocktown to a very good score of 181. In response the Suckers made a steady start but consistently lost wickets. After an opening wicket partnership of 41 the next best was 19 when Mitchell Santner was joined by Chris Woakes with 7 men down and need 51 from 24. The did well but could only get it down to 20 runs from 6. Far too many for any team to get in the last over. The previous best was 19 by P9 Panthers. But wait... instead of bowling Parvez Rasool who had gone at 8 per over, captain James Hildreth decided to throw the ball to Shehan Jayasuriya who had gone for 38 from 3 overs.

SIX!
ANOTHER FOUR!
A single off the fifth ball left the scores tied and Chris Woakes facing. With a super over on the horizon Jayasuriya tossed one up and Woakes ably edged it behind for a match winning single.

San Francisco Suckers win the match and Group C! Spartans join them in second place and Blocktown finish third, pipping the unlucky Thunder on RpW ratio.

The final standings look like this. It means that Thunder miss out on the quarter finals, as do Montreal Midgets. Both who finished on 9 points in Group B.

Quarter finalists - I've updated your team sheets as you are all the most important.

Added a 'QF' tab for picking your team. Please do look to update this otherwise I will use the team you used in the last match.

@Chris Swift @Mouseydread @beechcroft @sonimrajk you are home teams so you can select conditions. Can you share in this thread the conditions (team is optional) so that @ameyp9 @blockerdave @Bigby Wolf and @gillyboy04 can see what they are up against.

Everyone else, I will update your sheets tomorrow.[DOUBLEPOST=1589586108][/DOUBLEPOST]

Nice to see I will be playing up against Babar Azam and his Losers - you can have another century if you like and the Twelve Fine Legs who were my pick to win the tournament - maybe we can take advantage of their bowling performance. On a serious note, this has been a brilliant fantastic tournament amazingly run and led, the amount of work you keep putting in is out of this world. We all really enjoyed tuning in to watching all different games with different players creating Planet Cricket history. The short third man cut off spinners will go down in folklore along with Liam Dawson’s hattrick. It’s been great to watch all of the games and see how the tournament has played out. Looking forward to the quarter finals as well as the other group placed games. It’s also been great to choose our tactics and players and how they have changed @Wavelberry changing his captain every game and backing Bopara at the end. My team have become very good at playing batters into form and both hundreds in the tournament have come against us. I don’t think my bowling attack has fired like my batting side. Secretly I’m backing Fire in Babylon and the kiwi filled SAN Francisco side. This is great!
