Story March 2007: England Vs West Indies Test series.

Tail goes down with a wimper - 85 all out (again!)

After some brief resistance from Jones and Hoggard at the end, the England tail quickly crumbled. Jones was the victim of yet another suicidal run out by England in typical fashion, miles short. He was soon followed by Mahmood edging to third slip of Fidel Edwards (shown).

Harmison did not last much longer being dismissed for one caught behind off Bradshaw, with Panesar and Anderson lasting out a few overs as they had in the first innings, but Panesar fell LBW to Bradshaw to complete his 5-for.

So, 85 all out, the exact same score as the first innings but 23 from Mr Extras only enhanced that score, on this total and Geraint Jones passed 20. It took just 55 overs, incidentally the exact same as the first innings did and setting the West Indies just 34 to win. It will be interesting to see if there are any team chances next time in deed for England!

Bradshaw collects the first test 5-for of the series, with 5/12 in the second inngs and also likely to be the match best as well with 7/28! Steve Harmison needs 4 wickets defending 34 to better that, it looks unlikely to well done too Bradshaw!

Innings analysis below.

The chase for victory is on from West Indies, check back in an hour for the details!

Indeed it did not even take the West Indies an hour, a little more than 45 minutes and it was wrapped up. 34 Runs was a token target, but Steve Harmison gave England some say as he bowled Chanderpaul 3rd ball, albeit for a quickfire 10 including a six and a four (pictured).

It never stopped Chris Gayle and Brian Lara as they lauched slogs, and a few sixes of their own to bring up the total in just 8.0 overs.

Short innings analysis below. Intruginly, Hoggard and Harmison both shared stastics of 4-1-17-x, for only Harmisons early wicket seprating the two, hasn't this been a match for similar figures!

And so the West Indies win by 9 wickets at 1.08 on day 3. It never looked like this match would go the distance and so it proved. How the bowlers are going to like their averages after this match!

Word is from the West Indies Jerome Taylor, the young hope will be out for the next test after a poor showing, we shall have to wait and see. Expect Freddie Flintoff to be back for England, but who will be dropped.... Signing off until the next test, hopefully soon but I have a bit on this week - fingers crossed, Bairdos 90.
