Test 1|India, 1st Innings
Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados

India Counters

Resuming at an overnight score of 221/5, Saha and Tendulkar continued their defensive tactics as they tried to build up a partnership. After a few half hearted shots, both gained momentum and began to strike the ball in the gaps at regular intervals. On the other hand, Windies, for the second straight day, went wicketless in the first session. The good work by the Indians continued post lunch as Tendulkar and Saha, who seemed to have blossomed in the company of his senior partner kept the scoreboard ticking.

Sachin Tendulkar led the counter attack for the visitors

As the day progressed, the pitch became increasingly easier to bat just as what the pitch expert Ian Bishop said before the start of the play. Frustration was visible on the faces of the Carribean bowlers as they didn't any reward in the day. However, despite stitching a long partnership, boundaries were hard to come by. The last recognized batting pair brought their 150 partnership with both the batsmen reaching personal milestones - Tendulkar reached three figure mark while Saha scored half century - in the process . At one point, it looked as if the Indians won't lose any wickets in the entire day but it was not to be. Just before the stroke of tea, Sachin was foxed by a straighter one from rising Carribean talent Sunil Narine resulting in "Tendlya" knicking the ball before the gloveman Dinesh Ramdin did no mistake to give a much needed breakthrough for the Calypsos.

Wriddhiman Saha played an innings of his liftime

Sachin's wicket didn't had any negative effect on Saha's batting. In fact, the wicket-keeper from Shaktigarh, West Bengal sensed that he would have to take charge of the proceedings and consequently, started striking the ball hard much to the surprise of the Windies bowlers as he had been pretty calm for most part of his innings. The late attack from him included a massive six them came off a Ravi Rampaul delivery as he hooked the pacer over fine leg region for an overboundary. Despite his heroics, India couldn't recover from there as wickets kept tumbling at the other end. After getting the prize wicket of Tendulkar, spin-pace combination of Sunil Narine and Kemar Roach cleaned up the tail getting two wickets a piece from the remaining four. While Roach cleaned up Zaheer Khan and castled Umesh Yadav in front of stumps in the 149th and 157th over respectively, Narine disturbed Shanthakumaran Sreesanth's bails as the tailender who is known for his louche antics after he hit South African pacer Andre Nel for a six back in Dec, 2006 at Johannesburg danced down the track in a bid to clear the ropes but ended up getting yorked before losing his leg stump. Pragyan Ojha was the last man to be dismissed who miscued a sweep shot off an angled delivery from Narine only to get caught by Roach, who had a good day in the field, at short square leg much to the disappointment of Saha who remained unbeaten on a well made 95. The Indian innings thus folded up for 387 runs that came off 160.2 overs.

Sunil Narine was the pick of the bowlers grabbing a 4 wicket haul

Indians would be a happy lot as they managed to put a good score on the board after being on the receiving end on the 1st day. On the other hand, West Indies will be looking to pile up a huge score so that they can attain a big lead over the visitors to regain an upper hand in the match. On the third and the most important day of the test match it will be interesting to see whether the hosts led by flamboyant Chris Gayle dominates the proceedings or will Indian bowlers under the experienced Zaheer Khan hits the Calypsos hard.

387 is a decent score. Indians need to bowl well and if they do so this match is in their hand. Go India Go :p

Just read the update, I'd love if you make it read like a bit more West Indian story and not an Indian story. That 'article' feel comes in after reading some of the lines above.

This stands out.

the wicket-keeper from Shaktigarh, West Bengal

This as well. Too minor details for the Indians.

It could also be presented in a better manner. Looks hurried. The screens can be polished. Pitch maps can be better detailed.

Just a bit of criticism so that this can reach new heights. Good luck! I'm supporting the West Indies here. Gayle to hit a quick fire 150 or get out on a duck. Let's see... :spy

I'll add that "West Indian story" feeling in the next update the hosts comes to bat and regarding the article feeling, I thought it would be better to read way rather than same old story style. I personally prefer to read the stories with an article touch in it as along with the detail about the match proceedings it also provides some extra cricketing knowledge. Also, I'd prefer to use some other words like "Master Blaster" or the man from Bengal than repeatedly writing Tendulkar, Sachin or Saha and as such. Repetitive occurrence of same words makes a boring read. Don't you think so? However, as I'm writing it for you guys to read, its my duty to consider your preferences and thus if I get more of such comments to do away with the article style, I'll switch over to normal story telling style like several other stories that had been done by various members in the past.

Could you please elaborate? I mean how could the suggestions you gave can be put into practice? Do note that I'm a noob at photoshop and have only PS 7 version of it. It wouldn't have made any difference if I even had PS CS 5 extended though. :p

Thanks for your support and suggestions. I'm glad that you have taken interest in the story and its improvement. Unfortunately, I'm not good at graphics and guys whom I contacted were too busy in their own to assist me. I wish I had a companion like you for a story who has an excellent grip over graphic making.

Writing can always be made interesting without that 'article' thing tbh. There's nothing sort of 'the usual story writing' style. Everyone has a different one. Yours is good but, some of it (which I pointed) can be curved.

I'm no great with PS tbh. It is just you can put the screens in proportion. Resize them proportionately. It will do wonders.

I won't mind making some of the stuff for this story. You can send a PM if you need anything. I'd love to see the story forum back actually!

Agreed. But, 'Sreesanth, the man who is famous for lofting the protean Andre Nel over his head for a straight six ...' doesn't go well for me. Just a personal thing maybe. Whereas 'Master Blaster' or the 'Bengali Tiger' is absolutely fine.

Okay, I'll try to put that into practice at the earliest. It will be pleasure to work with you. I'll surely notify you with my requirements for the story.
