Most overrated cricketer on the planet...

Tendulkar made Benaud's 11. Who knows more about cricket than you! so shut your mouth. A man who has the most centuries in each form of the game wouldn't get in your dream team  . Next your going to say Glenn McGrath wouldn't get in your team? Before you post nonsense get some facts.
In cricket 2005, Tendulkar is rated higher than Lara. Well done HB and EA. They got that right.
Tendulkar is better than Lara. Both of them are better than anyone else playing right now. Dravid-3. Kallis-4. Ponting-5.

well said
although i actually consider dravid the best batsman in the world ATM.

Well this debate will continue one feels. Despite all your valid comments, I still think Sachin is often overrated by the fans and the press.

Anyways someone mentioned about a Dream XI. Lets see who would make my Dream World XI. I am considering current players on the basis of current form as well as career achivements.

ODIs:
Chris Gayle
Adam Gilchrist
Herschelle Gibbs
Sachin Tendulkar
Ricky Ponting
Brian Lara
Andrew Flintoff
Shaun Pollock
Daniel Vettori
Glen McGrath
Steve Harmison

Tests:
Justin Langer
Herschelle Gibbs
Jacques Kallis
Ricky Ponting
Sachin Tendulkar
Brian Lara
Andrew Flintoff
Adam Gilchrist
Shane Warne
Glen McGrath
Steve Harmison

I know there are quite a few players who need to be mentioned. But its difficult to have all of them in one team. Also this is just my opinion of a Dream World XI Team.

I know my cricket, I'm just not a Sachin fan.
you dont have to be a fan..im not a viv richards fan or even a brian lara fan. But i aknowledge how good they were. Im not a glen mcgrath or wasim akram fan. But i know theyr the best pacers of this generation.

Anyways all this said, the standard of cricket really has fallen drastically in the last couple of years. When people like harmison make it on to world 11s, then something is wrong, or even vetorri.

Awhile back we had mcgrath, ambrose, walsh, warne, wasim, waquar, pollock, donald etc.. all at their peak.. same goes for spinners. Generally overall the standard of crickeet has fallen alot over of late. Thats why its lost its appeal. Hopefully things will imrpove.

Maradonnas overrated, even peles overrated. Every great player in every sport has to be overrated. Thats the nature of media today. Even bradman has probabily been overrated down the years.

Sachin Tendulkar is the greatest cricket player of all time. Bradman was definitly better in tests, and he never played an ODI, so we will never know. but no one comes close the the number of runs sachin has made in total. he has played less games than some other superstars, but has alot more runs. (in general) To call him average is an insult to not only himself, but cricket in general. Right now, Sachin is not the best player in the world, but he is ageing, and has faught through alot of injuries. He has carried India over his shoulders countless of times, and pulled off magical victories when no one thought it was possible.

Absolutely agree with you! Very well said!

Although I would say Dravid is a better test batsman than Sachin.

Not one ODI century to his name. How can you defend it ?????

Frankly doesnt deserve a place even in the England ODI team .Think Solanki is a better bet than him .

As for tests go put aside 1)Ashes down under 2)Home series against India.

Now that record is not really world class.

For Bradman has to say Sachin is to ODI's what Bradman is to Test's

I don't think i said he was any good at ODI. I am a fan of Vaughan but i don't think he should be in the team, but he is a great captain.

Sachin is not the greatest player of all time. Jack Hobbs was better. He averaged mid 50s and he mainly played on our poor batting pitches. Bradman was the best ever. Hadlee, Botham, McGrath are ahead of Sachin. Also Imran Khan and Wasim Akram.

why hate Sachin! the man took the Indian team from early 1990s and has been showing class since. Average is a wayward term, especially to be used on a person who has THE MOST # OF CENTURIES in every form of the game. the second closest person is 15 centuries away in ODI's. Before the Sachin came
the Indian team only had 1 good series 198* World Cup. Kapil Dev then left. India was an expansion team, we were no better than Bangladesh, as they are now, then little Sachin came and everything changed- from there on this man has "DOMINATED" every country that he has played. How the heck is he average, and then people consider him worse than Vaughan-0000 centuries etc hmmm................

Wow.. Another interesting thread.. Lot of debate on Sachin being overrated and his fans jumping to defend him. I dont want to do the same though I can never ever dream of Sachin being over rated! According to me, the even talk of Sachin being overrated is funny and stupid! Because during his early days of career, he has faces tough bowling attacks and has scored brilliantly off them. He has led the Indian batting brigade in the 90's and has performed admirably. Off late due to the in flow of youngsters, he is taking more than enough time to get into a specific role in which he can serve the team, thats all. But he is still a brilliant cricketer and deserves all his rating.

According to me, the most over rated cricketers are

1. Shoaib Akthar
2. Shahid Afridi

yup..before wasting time with responses one really needs to see just who is giving opinions. responding to BS is hardly of any use.

Seriously though man...are you on crack or something..??

If you are looking at Sachin and his form in the last 2 years you can say he is over rated. But if you look at his Career and the number of years he carried india on his shoulders, then you are crazy to say he is over rated

As for murali, he didnt come out and change any rules. I mean if you are gonna talk about evidence and tests, then the ICC gave a reports saying that they observed players from all teams during the champs trophy in england and came up with new rules after analysing all bowlers actions. According to the old restrictions, Mc Grath had also chucked a few balls. I cant find the article at the moment. When I do find it I will post a link.
