Muralitharan vs Bishan Singh Bedi - 'Chucking' War

You probably can't count in general, then, since he's probably been hyped and successfully delivered far more times.

I can't believe you guys are defending Murali, that was a very immature response.

I can, not that I agree with the defences. Murali wasn't such a magician outside of Sri Lanka.

Murali in Sri Lanka : 493 wickets @ 19.57 (SR 50.83)
Murali in ZIM/BAN : 55 wickets @ 23.27 (SR 58.09)
Murali elsewhere : 252 wickets @ 28.79 (SR 62.63)

Not exactly impressive outside of his "comfort zone" of Sri Lanka and playing naff nations, and the extra breakdown of playing Zimbabwe and Bangladesh highlights how much of a home advantage he had.

And I agree with people saying the laws were bent (excuse the pun) to accommodate Murali, he was the biggest beneficiary of the laws and the biggest controversy of them all. I still view a number of actions with doubt, Malinga throwing it in from near horizontal has to be some kind of advantage even if his accuracy is commendable. I think the whole for and against situation with Murali comes because there has been so much focus on his action. Do other bowlers get so much scrutiny? But then is that because Murali's was so clearly controversial?

Then quite simply you don't understand the rules before, why it was changed, the scientific tests involved or the conclusions made from the rule change. The old rules were formed without any kind of scientific tests behind them, the new ones are and reflect on the facts presented from the tests of actions at bowlers at the time, which showed the majority of spinners were chuckers due to the inadequate laws.

Malinga's action is one of the most legal around, hardly any bend in the arm during the action. Angle of the arm in relation to the body has nothing to do with legitimacy.

Maybe because they were. Seriously it isn't that hard to bowl with a straight arm.

And I do believe that Malinga slightly does chuck it, if you compare his action to someone like Tait's, you can clearly see a flexing of the elbow.

1) Flex will always exist at the elbow when doing such a strenuous and un-natural action.

2) You believe wrong, then.

I think only nation where a spinner would be really tested is India. Although India has pitches that favored the spinners but they have pretty damn good players for last 2 decades..

Here is how Murali fares in India..
Matches:11, Runs:126, Wickets:40, Best: 7/100, Bowling Avg:45.45

A Average of 45 is certainly a far cry from what you expect someone who has 800 test wickets @22 to his name.:laugh

In ODI's he took 15 wickets from 13 games @ 31 Again not so great. His career AVG is 23

If you think that its possible to chuck with Malingas action then you don't know much about the human body.

For the last time, the ICC didn't just bend the rules for Murali. They found that many other bowlers were also pushing it.

It's about time that Murali reacted. He's taken so much abuse from all corners.

As a Sri Lankan, I feel very offended by claims made about Murali of ICC bending the rules to suit him (15 degree law). I thank u for standing for Murali and I think I need to add to the point that u r making.
The only bowl that was in question was his doosra (11 degrees something). And he was not allowed to bowl that. However, during this time, ICC made an investigation and found out that 23 contemporary bowlers were also bending beyond 10 degrees to 14 degrees. Among them were Shoaib Akthar, Bret Lee, Jason Gillespie etc.. as I remember. Since the rule was old too, they amended and extended to 15 degrees.

Bedi loves chatting rubbish, he likes the spot light I guess. The moment a non-Indian Asian accomplishes something, he's there to piss all over it.

And in all honesty, Bedi ranks far below the true greats of spin bowling, so...yeah

yes and in terms of Murali and Akhtar, they had "defects" with their arms, Akhtar can hyper extend his elbow and Murali had something with the wrists, can't remember what exactly.

Not sure about Akhtar but Muralitharan did have some abnormalities near the elbow area.

LOL you clearly don't know him very well. Its not just about supporting Indian and making rubbish claims about other players. He has said the same thing about Harbhajan Singh. In 2008, after Kumble retired he said Sehwag is the best spinner in the Indian team when Harbhajan was playing for Indian team. He also hates Dhoni and takes a dig at him every single time he has a chance to do so.
