But you have to admit, this story is no longer about Stuart; It's about Warren Hegg!

After our deserved lunch break, we came back out onto the pitch and took our positions once again. Freddie had the first over after lunch and Thorpe played some nice shots hitting a four and picking up two singles in the over. Murali and Freddie completed 6 overs together before Law threw the ball to me and I was about to get my first chance to bowl in County cricket.

With the score on 79/3 off 32 overs, I was given the ball

Despite my first over only going for a couple of runs, it was pretty ordinary in a certain respect. Me and Freddie shared the ball for a while and in one of Freddie's overs, he strayed just short of a length and Clinton, with his confidence growing ever higher, pulled Freddie to the boundary for four runs, it was by far the best shot of the day at that point. In fact, Clinton brought up his fifty in style off a delivery straying down the leg-side, which I wasn't too pleased about. Nevertheless, Clinton had played well despite the falling of wickets around him and really deserved the credit for lifting Surrey out of a bad position. By this time, Law had brought on Jimmy for a period of 2 overs but Thorpe and Clinton took him out of the attack with a full array of good strokes, including a six from Clinton. Law replaced Jimmy with slow left-armer Gary Keedy. After a tidy first over from Keedy, we finally made the much-needed breakthrough, and I claimed my first County cricket scalp. It was the dangerman Clinton who had to walk, thanks to a delivery which hit him on the pads causing myself, Warren Hegg and the 2 slips to go up in a fully-throated roar at the umpire. This time, unlike Dom's appeal earlier in the day, the finger went up sparking celebrations from the whole team. I'd claimed my first wicket, and I'd got it with my favourite type of dismissal, leg before wicket! The score now 110/4.

I'd got my first wicket and we were in a strong position

This wicket brought Jon Batty to the crease and after he'd batted out my over this brought Keedy back on who was bowling at Thorpe. Once again, we'd managed to push Surrey on the back foot and it looked like Keedy would make the breakthrough again. He was tempting Thorpe into attacking and you could see the pressure was building up for him and on the 4th ball of the over, Keedy managed to trap Thorpe leg before. It was a lovely delivery and Thorpe was trying to attack by attempting to run the ball down to the empty third man postion but he completly misread the flight and got caught by a great delivery. For the second time in the innings Surrey lost two wickets whilst stuck on the same score, 110/5.

Keedy bowled brilliantly that over and got rid of Thorpe

The wicket of Thorpe brought Rikki Clarke to the crease, joining Batty who had looked in control of his stroke-making so far. Clarke and Batty took the game to us hitting a few boundaries along the way. I was taken off, after my spell of 7 overs, for Murali. Keedy and Murali shared the ball for a while until Keedy was taken off for the return of Cork to try and break this partnership which was gradually increasing. After slowing the scoring rate down slighty, Cork and Murali began to get on top of the batsman and tried to force the issue, making the batsman get bogged down forcing them to attack. Murali was doing this superbly, and managed to force the Surrey batsman into taking a run they didn't need to take. It came from a sweep by Clarke that was hit behind square. It was Batty who called for the run and Sutcliffe, chasing the ball from slip, did brilliantly to catch the ball and get a throw into Warren Hegg who made no mistake with taking off the bails. Surrey now looking in big trouble with the score on 142/6 with Azhar Mahmood heading in to bat.

Fantastic work by Sutcliffe gets the wicket of Batty

Azhar Mahmood and Rikki Clarke guided Surrey into tea without the loss of further wickets. I have been pretty pleased with my performance so far and I reckon we can wrap up their innings pretty quickly in the final session of the day, which will leave a tough few over before the end of play.

yes but getting a guy who is past 50 is pretty decent in my books...

You're both wrong, I was coming round the wicket to the left-hander :p

I must say this is very good so far. I am really enjoying it. Hope to see more wickets from you.
