Magnificent Flintoff Propels England to Record Score

After a superb 113 by Trescothick provided the ideal foundation to the innings, Flintoff completed the job in style hitting a magnificent 83 not out off just 46 balls. Trescothick was out trying to hit out in the final overs but after that it was pretty much Flintoff show in the middle as no Aussie bowler was spared. A total six 6s and six 4s were hammered all over the park and for the first time in recent history the Aussies looked out of any ideas (not often you see 8 bowlers used). Flintoff had little luck when one of his 6s was caught on the boundry but the fielder stepped over the rope much to the joy of noisy home fans. England finished on 348 for 6 in their 50 overs.

A packed crowd at Chester Le Street enjoying Flintoff's knock. Some senior Planet Cricket members can be seen in front rows.

I've got to try this v3 patch. Loving the variety of scoring.
Great series so far guys.

yes it's certainly worth trying..who wouldn't like to hit 340+ v the aussies ;) and most probably Ravi will be tweaking as we proceed thru the series so it will get better.

Terrific stuff Shailesh, top score that as well. Chasing this is going to put a lot of pressure on the OZs and this is a massive target to chase.

S, do you think the patch is a bit too easy when used without Sam's exe. I had a quick game yesterday and I felt so. We can tighten some for the next game after seeing how my chase will go. It may also be you may have batted your best in this game.

yes Ravi, the cfgs can be tweaked a bit I guess and also some of the field settings. A good score in the end but will it be enough ;) good luck.

Chase is underway : After 10 overs Aussies 59/2

Chase is underway : After 10 overs Aussies 59/2

The chase is underway, plenty of drama already in the first 10 overs. England have an upper hand so far claiming both the openers but their effort in the field has been shocking. The fielding seems to be the area which is in disarray at the moment. The fine leg fielder misfielded twice off the last two balls off the 10th over bowled by Flintoff conceeding 8 valuable runs.

Gilchrist started in his usual fashion slamming 23 runs off only 20 balls with 5 fours but holed out trying to hit one over the top off Harmison. Hayden not sure whether to drop anchor or to play aggressively lasted quite a while but struggled to score 12 off 24 bowls and was eventually bowled by an excellent yorker from Gough. The England opening bowlers were aggressive and hit both Gilchrist and Hayden on the helmet each.

Ponting now has come out all guns blazing with sublime timing, no big hitting but playing some excellent shots all around the wicket so far helped by England's shoddy fielding. Martyn has joined Ponting and the score at the end of 10 overs is 59/2.

Watch the video of the highlights of the first 10 overs by going to http://www.overthewicket.com/Cricket2004 in about 5-10 minutes

You will need to have high speed internet to watch the highlights and also make sure you do not have any download manager if you want to watch the streaming video.

Aussies collapse to England's spin attack

Aussies lost 4 wickets between 10 and 25 overs all the 4 to the spinners. The introduction of Giles changed the game in favor of England dramatically. Seeing the finger spinner was doing very well on this pitch, England captain introduced himself into the attack and even accounted for A.Symonds. Aussies have themselves to blame as they got out to plenty of rash strokes when the need of the hour was to play percentage cricket. After 25 overs Aussies are in a unfamiliar score of 113/6 with M.Clarke and S.Watson at the crease.

England fans have started to celebrate already knowing this game is now well and truly a formality for an England win.
