New Zealand Domestic Season

They can and probably will play for Canterbury, i'm 90% sure Harris is, not sure about Bond, but they aren't allowed contracts as they're ICL rebels. They get paid on a game by game basis.

Stephen Fleming will play Twenty/20 for Wellington only. I just read on cricinfo he's going to coach the Chennai Super Kings which will be huge for him and that side. He made such a great captain he'll be a very good coach.

I hope CD can be more competitive without our Black Caps regulars this season. We should have Sinclair back to strengthen the middle order and some good young players building upon their experiences from last season, which should help. We have some good upcoming players who will push for spots in the Black Caps this year or in the next. 4 guys in particular i've got my eyes on at the moment like, George Worker, a promising U/19 opener, Greg Hay, a highly touted middle order batsman, Richard Sherlock, a often-injured, yet talented bowler who can get up to speeds of 150kph and get good movement with the ball, and Robbie Schaw, a promising young left-arm wrist spinner who was selected for the emerging players squad and is one of many players catching up and close to taking over Jeetan Patel.

I'm looking forward to seeing CD this week too COB. Especially G. Hay and Tim Weston Who both have heaps of potential.

Auckland piling on the runs, good to see. Tim McIntosh did well at the end of last years Championship so may come into Black Cap opening contention. He seems to be able to play a lot of big innings.

He's 140* at the moment.

Anyone interested, the www.blackcaps.co.nz site has live scores. Link on the front page in a bar at the top.
Others can listen online at http://www.radiosport.co.nz/ (click listen live) Some days they have just cricket being commentated, some days you just get updates every 5 or so minutes if they're doing a few other sport events.

I think McIntosh just became the next in line for an opening spot, should either opener fail in Australia. Reece Young seems to have put the experience from the NZ A tour with a good knock. I hope de Grandhomme continues his good start and puts up a big score himself tommorow, he's a promising young batsman.

For Canterbury, Davidson performed well with the ball today, he starting to put up some good, consistent performances and seems a good future prospect for the future.

Unless Ive made some mistake, Canterbury need 404 from there final innings. Makeable if Fulton can stay in and they can build some good partnerships

Currently 170/2 with Fulton on 64 and Myburgh on 64. Canterbury on a good position with a day to go and a decent amount of wickets.

EDIT: Cursed him, Fulton Gone

EDIT #2- A collapse has pretty much ruled Canterbury out

Yeah, Canterbury batted bad their first innings. This usually happens to the Black Caps too. They fail in the firstinnings and make it hard for themselves playing catch-up.

This Nethula guy is interesting, he got 3 wickets (and decent batters too) Leg Spinners are rare here so hopefully he develops into a handy player. He's very young, still in teens I think.

MD Bell 130 not out

Makes a claim for selection once again. He does seem capable for putting on big scores, converting starts and batting time. He's also consistent.

James Franklin's on 52 not out batting at 5 so good signs there. Maybe he worked a bit on his batting over his injury time when he couldn't bowl. If he can become a more genuine batsmen it will do the black caps a lot of good. Can't wait to see how he does with the ball.

Canterbury bowling is looking very average thus far this season.

I think it's really between him and McIntosh at the moment for the next shot at the opening positions, I would probably go with McIntosh though as he offers something different to our past few selections in that he is a left hander, giving us a left-right combination which we haven't had since Mark Richardson was in the side, that is unless one of the young openers step up big time.

On another note, good to see Kane Williamson made 82 yesterday, there is a lot of expectation and hope that he will become a world class batsman for the Black Caps in the next few seasons.

I agree about McIntosh, Bell's older and I think would only come into contention for injury. It's refreshing to finally see players piling on runs at the top of the order at domestic cricket! :) Cumming has made a steady start also. Him and Bell have kind of had their chance but if they play well enough this season they may get another, who knows.

It's also refreshing to see so much youth in the domestic sides. Boult is on debut for Northern and has 2 wickets already, Worker is currently in for the stags, Williamson got runs. Great to see. I think this is the way up for our test side. Our side in 5-10 years could be pretty good if these guys play to their potential.

Yeah I agree this is probably the best crop of young players we've had in a long time. I've been really impressed by Boult, he already looks good enough to be in the Black Caps, going by that NZ A tour alone. and he already seems to be taking to the domestic scene quite well with those two early wickets.

Canterbury don't look too good at the moment, they couldn't bowl Wellington out with a side that has 8 recognized bowlers in it's side, I think there biggest worry is with their batting depth, I know Andy Ellis isn't too bad with the willow but he honestly shouldn't be your no.3. I also know Fulton is on tour and Myburgh is injured but they do have a huge lack of depth with their batting. Maybe they can give a contract next year to Fraser Colson and steal him from Wellington, thats if they can do it.
