New Zealand in Australia Nov-Dec 2008 Feb 2009

I'd ike to see Franklin back as well because he has very good test figures and as a left arm swing bowler he adds variation to our attack. Very handy batsmen too. With good pitches in Australia we'll probably need someone like him more than an Elliot who is mainly a batter, so I agree. I just don't know if they'll select Franklin without him playing much domestic cricket. I just read this article: http://content-nz.cricinfo.com/ci/content/story/373510.html
and it seems he's still not firing at 100% and you'd really want that against Australia. I'd say better keeping him for West Indies and India series.

I'll wait to see who we select in the squad and then give my eleven. Can't be far off.

It would be real good to have Franklin :)

Not sure on Holland or Hauritz in a test match. Hauritz is a class One Day bowler though. I would love to see Bollinger and Siddle get a few games this summer too.

Well Hauritz has outperformed Casson so far in his only FC match. We will know more when our match with Vic is finished. Holland so far has shown he has good control and today he again is bowling with that control.

Agree with wanting to see Bollinger or Siddle. It's a good time to try them to see if they have what it takes. We need to know before the Ashes.

I'm worried about our bowling in this series now that Oram is out. He has been our best and most consistent pace bowler all year in my opinion, he would of been useful to tie up one end, while someone like a Vettori can try and tempt batsman into a miscalculated shot from the other, or more often than not stemming the flow of runs after our new ball bowlers have got carted.

I think we should still take an extra batsman in his place though, which more than likely would be Fulton due to his good performances against Australia in the past.

Definitely agree on Fulton hes done well for the A side as well so hes in form. Probably Vettori will tie up one end as we are a bit suspect against left arm offies.

I'm taking O'Brien will be in the 11 after his display in Bangladesh. Haven't seen much of him but from memory he has some pace. Franklin probably would be good with early movement but when I last saw him his pace was around 130km/h which isn't quick enough for this level. If hes improve on that though he should be at least in the squad.

I think Franklin's faster than O'Brien, and he's a left arm seamer which adds variety.

NZ Cricket awards are on tonight but only delayed coverage on SkySports3. Pretty weird.

EDIT:

For anyone interested: (07/08 season)

First Class Batter: Ross Taylor
First Class Bowler: Chris Martin

OD Batter: Brendon McCullum
OD Bowler: Kyle Mills

All-Rounder: Jacob Oram

Cricketer of the year: Brendon McCullum

Was surprised Vettori went home empty handed. I thought he was a candidate for Test Batter at least bahahaha

Is anyone going to the first test in Brisbane?

I might go up and see the first two days of the test, if I can afford it.

No surprises. Patel out for Martin basically.

No Mason was only for the ODI series in BD, Patel is out.

Yep, Hauritz has been the pick of our bowlers lately especially in this game against the Vics and they are a class line-up. Holland, is just quite simply to young for me and struggled to take any wickets against our NSW line-up in the one dayer. Krejza has bowled alrite today we might end up sticking with him or even White but I hope we dont stick with White. We'll just have to wait and see.

Ahhh of course. Makes sense since Patel won't get any assistance in Australia. Good on the selectors for realizing that.

That's pretty much how Holland has gone. Hes more an accurate bowler rather than one that picks up bags of wickets atm. If Hauritz and now Krejza weren't going so well I would have been tempted to play him. But with 2 spinners now kinda of stepping up we don't have to rush Holland.

Well, Holland hasn't taken a wicket in this shield game either against a line up featuring such inexperienced batsmen probably his age. He bowled 14 overs 0/36 I think it was so I cant see him playing this summer or in the Ashes.
